Lead the Way in Compliance

At American Express, we're committed to upholding the highest standards of compliance and integrity. As our Director Compliance H/F, you'll play a critical role in leading our French Market Compliance team and ensuring that our business practices align with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the French Non AML Compliance Advisory team, comprising Anti-corruption, Regulatory, Testing & Controls.
  • Deputize for the Market Compliance Officer in attending legal entity governance committee meetings and providing 2nd line compliance approvals where needed.
  • Provide expert compliance risk assessment and guidance to Legal Entities and business units, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Determine the applicability of new laws, regulations, and guidance to the business, communicating requirements to relevant teams and overseeing implementation.
  • Provide timely, pragmatic, and balanced regulatory compliance advice, participating in Operational Risk Committees and other local governance committees.
  • Address internal Audit findings and follow-up remediation actions.
  • Support the issue management program, providing Compliance advice on Operational Risk Events and maintaining oversight of action plans.
  • Support the Market Compliance Officer with regulator engagements, including information requests, thematic reviews, and supervisory engagements.
  • Create and maintain compliance policies, procedures, and training programs.

Requirements

  • More than 10 years of experience as a senior leader in Compliance within a financial institution.
  • Perfect command of English and French.
  • More than 5 years of leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the payments and consumer credit regulatory framework in France and Europe.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and communicate implications to various audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with reporting.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills and cultural awareness.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, adaptable, and detail-oriented with a proven ability to work independently or within a team environment.
