EU Direct Commodities Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled EU Direct Commodities Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our purchasing department, you will be responsible for managing direct commodities purchases across all European sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage direct commodities purchases for all European sites, including UK, France, Spain, and Germany.
  • Gain market intelligence and become an expert in all commodities, working with global purchase and design teams to develop an optimal direct strategy plan for the EU.
  • Have a technical understanding of supply roadmaps, identifying key commodities and suppliers within the EU region, considering key supply risk factors such as REACH, capacity, and RVC.
  • Build and maintain strong connections with global purchasing to identify strategies and develop suppliers both globally and locally.
  • Lead strategic tenders, develop negotiation plans, identify suppliers, and finalize contracting.
  • Influence internal functions and external suppliers to drive year-over-year cost reductions and secure future cost optimization.
  • Support the EU Direct Purchasing Manager on commercial contracting, focusing on localization with EU suppliers for new and existing sourcing projects.
  • Research and evaluate areas of opportunity to reduce costs within the end-to-end supply chain for current and new BOM activities.
  • Develop ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value, and aid business performance, working towards a strategy of continuous improvement.
  • Assess and evaluate suppliers to undertake performance reviews, driving improvement activities.
  • Support project purchasing and supply chain teams across the EU to ensure AESC maximizes supply logistics improvements and avoids production delays.

Requirements:

  • University degree qualification is essential.
  • CIPS or MCIPS is preferred for this role.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Power BI, SAP.
  • Travel will be required within the EU and sometimes Asia.
  • Full driving license.
  • Fluent in English (C1 level).

Desirable Background Experience:

  • Proven purchasing experience within a lithium-ion battery manufacturing environment is desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a vision for success, ability to take responsibility, and develop strong/efficient negotiation plans.
  • Excellent communication skills (English) are essential to build relationships with global functions (purchase, design, SQD) and suppliers in Asia.
  • Effective analytical skills to evaluate commodity market trends and report to the EU leadership.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and have a good sense of priorities.
  • Strong industrial awareness by investigating new supply markets to assess existing and new supplier capabilities to further strengthen cost reductions and supply rationalization.
  • Have an inquisitive and open attitude to exploring new ideas and willingness for continuous improvement.
