Position Overview:
The Aga Khan Academies is seeking a dedicated Gender Officer to join our team under the Emergency Gender Equity & Social Inclusion framework. This role is crucial in supporting various initiatives aimed at ensuring effective gender integration and enhancing community resilience through a comprehensive approach to disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Training and Capacity Development:
- Design and facilitate training workshops on gender mainstreaming for staff, partners, and stakeholders, guided by the Manager of Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI).
- Enhance the capabilities of gender focal points, staff, and partners in gender integration within the Academies' program areas.
- Program Development and Support:
- Ensure effective gender integration across all program activities.
- Review new funding proposals with a focus on gender markers to promote inclusive and transformative programming.
- Advocacy and Awareness:
- Develop community awareness initiatives centered on gender equality and climate change, emphasizing the interconnections between disaster risk management and these critical issues.
- Provide training for gender focal persons and social mobilizers to effectively conduct sessions on gender equality and inclusion.
- Partnership and Networking:
- Collaborate within the organization to ensure gender mainstreaming across various program components.
- Engage in gender networks and forums to exchange best practices and learn from peers.
- Research and Analysis:
- Conduct gender analyses and assessments to identify gaps and opportunities for promoting gender equality and social inclusion.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of gender initiatives, providing comprehensive reports on findings.
- Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Track progress on gender-related objectives and report outcomes in collaboration with the Monitoring and Evaluation Team.
- Implement the Gender and Inclusion checklist effectively within the program.
- Identify challenges and propose recommendations for improvements.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Master's degree in gender studies or a related field.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in a non-governmental organization (NGO) setting.
- Strong understanding of gender issues, climate change, and disaster risk reduction, along with their social and environmental impacts.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in MS Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both English and Urdu.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Strong organizational and time management capabilities.
- Capacity to work independently or collaboratively within a team.
- Commitment to personal development and knowledge enhancement.
