Job Context and Requirements

INRIA, the French national institute for research in computer science, control, and applied mathematics, is seeking a highly skilled researcher to join our team. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of individual-based modeling frameworks for coupled single-cell and population processes.

Research Project

The research project aims to investigate the mechanisms of gene expression and plasmid copy number fluctuations in a cell population, with applications to synthetic biology. The candidate will develop approaches to mathematically analyze individual-based models and numerically simulate them, using single-cell microscopy data to parameterize a model of a synthetic gene circuit in bacteria.

Main Activities

  • Develop an individual-based modeling framework to understand coupled single-cell and population processes.
  • Develop approaches to mathematically analyze individual-based models and numerically simulate them.
  • Use single-cell microscopy data to parameterize a model of a synthetic gene circuit in bacteria.
  • Study how the burden for cells created by the synthetic gene circuit affects emerging population growth rates.

Required Skills

  • Strong programming and mathematics skills.
  • Prior experience with single-cell microscopy data.
  • Prior experience with stochastic individual-based models.
