About the Position
WorldFish and its partners are seeking a Solomon Islands national scientist with evidence of experience in immersed research deeply embedded with people and places in Solomon Islands. The position fills a central role in the ACIAR-funded project on "Coalitions for change in sustainable CBFM programs in the Pacific," focusing on scaling CBRM in support of the priorities of the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR) and provincial governments in Solomon Islands. This is a key area of WorldFish's work in Solomon Islands in support of the CBRM scaling strategy of MFMR. The position is part of an international program on CBRM and island food systems. Some participation in WorldFish's international research program and partnership with ANCORS at the University of Wollongong is expected.
Requirements
This role may be suitable for you if you possess the following skills and qualifications:
- PhD in fields such as Fisheries science, Rural development, Agricultural science, or Environmental anthropology, with evidence of interdisciplinary skillsets (methods, analyses, interpretation, and communication).
- Experience working with CBRM in Solomon Islands is essential, with a deep understanding of CBRM principles and their practical application in the country and region.
- Demonstrated leadership in coordinating national activities and events (look and learns, demonstrations, symposiums).
- Demonstrated leadership in conducting quantitative and/or qualitative methodologies.
- Experience in collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including indigenous peoples, groups, and communities, as well as government and civil society groups.
- Theoretical understanding of food security, collective action, and gender and social relations in Solomon Islands and how these influence governance, livelihoods, and rural development in island food systems.
- Highly proficient in data management and analyses, with evidence of previous reporting and production of scientific outputs.
- Highly proficient in Office 365 software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills in working with international and diverse teams.
Desirable Skills/Experience
Familiarity with the policies and legislative structures underpinning national services in the agriculture and fisheries sectors in Solomon Islands, particularly the Solomon Islands Fisheries Policy, MFMR Operational plan, MFMR CBRM Scaling strategy, as well as Provincial Fisheries Ordinances.

This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position, and WorldFish offers a competitive remuneration package including comprehensive benefits (but not limited to) insurance coverage for staff and eligible dependents, employer provident fund contribution, paid leave, and others. The duration of the contract will initially be for a two-year period with possibility for extension, depending on funding and performance.
