Nutrition and Meal Preparation Specialist

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Cook to join our culinary team at RhynoCare Staffing Solutions. As a Cook in our partnered facilities, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the nutritional needs of residents are met with delicious and wholesome meals.
You will work collaboratively with the facility's dietary team to plan menus, prepare meals, and maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment. Your attention to detail and ability to multitask will be essential in ensuring the smooth operation of the kitchen.
Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious meals in accordance with dietary requirements and menu plans, ensuring all standards are met.
- Ensure meals are served at the appropriate temperature and in a timely manner.
- Assist with the serving of meals to residents, ensuring resident food preferences are respected.
- Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper storage and handling of food.
- Collaborate with dietary staff to develop menus that meet the nutritional needs and preferences of residents.
- Assist the Food and Nutrition Manager in controlling food costs, waste, and ordering.
- Monitor food inventory and communicate with the appropriate channels to coordinate ordering of supplies.
- Ensure all Public Health and Ministry of Long-Term Care requirements are met.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including equipment and utensils.
- Assist with special events and catering as required.
Requirements
- Successful completion and/or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting the requirements of the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act is required.
- Chef/Cook Certification from a recognized community college, preferably Red Seal, is preferred.
- A Food Handler's Certificate and proof of COVID-19 vaccination are also required.
- Experience in a Long Term Care setting or with seniors is preferred, but institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality cooking experience is accepted.
Skills
- A sincere interest in people, particularly the elderly, and a genuine sensitivity to their needs are essential.
- The ability to effectively handle the physical aspects of the position, including bending, standing, lifting, and working safely, is required.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written in English) are necessary.
