We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Doctoral Researcher to join our team at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge research project, 'Law by Colour Code', which explores the role of race and racism in international law.
About the ProjectThe 'Law by Colour Code' project aims to investigate the legal governance of nature and food systems in the Anthropocene, with a focus on European practices of international law. The project is funded by the Swiss National Sciences Foundation and is jointly hosted by the International Law Department and the Global Governance Centre.
Your RoleAs a Doctoral Researcher, you will be responsible for conducting academic research in a humanities or social sciences discipline, with a focus on European and international law. You will work independently and as part of a team to develop your own and original research, and contribute to project-related activities such as archival research and the organizing of scientific events.
Requirements- Master's degree in law or a related discipline
- Ability to carry out academic research in a humanities or social sciences discipline
- Knowledge of and interest in the project's themes, as well as in European and international law
- Organized and capable of working independently
- Excellent written and oral communication in English, as well as proficiency in French, Dutch, or one other working language of the European Union
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others
- Subject to your admission to the doctoral program in September 2024, you will complete your doctoral dissertation on a topic falling under the broad umbrella of the 'Law by Colour Code' project
- You will be supported in developing your own and original research
- You will join the PhD program of the Graduate Institute's international law department and become part of the Global Governance Centre and a vibrant research community at the heart of international Geneva
- You will be employed as an SNSF-funded doctoral researcher, with a salary range available upon request
- You will be eligible to apply for additional SNSF funding opportunities, such as mobility grants to undertake visiting fellowships at foreign research institutions
- You will have access to some funding for conference and workshop participation

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a selection committee by the end of February. The successful candidate will then be invited to submit their formal application to the PhD Program.
