PhD Researcher in Brain Imaging and Meditation

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team at the Centre de Recherche en Neurosciences de Lyon - CRNL. The successful candidate will work on a 3-year-funded project investigating the impacts of meditation on brain function and cognition in older adults.

The project involves analyzing large brain imaging datasets, including the ERC consolidator Brain& Mindfulness and the EC-funded Silver Santé Study. The PhD student will have the opportunity to collaborate with a postdoctoral fellow and work with renowned researchers in the field.

The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in psychology, cognitive and/or affective neurosciences, or engineering applied to neuroimaging. Previous experience in analyzing functional neuroimaging data, particularly resting-state functional connectivity, is highly desirable. Proficiency in programming languages such as Matlab, Python, and R is required.

The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic research team and will have access to state-of-the-art neuroimaging facilities. The position offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

Project Objectives

The overall aim of the project is to characterize the plasticity of the aging brain following meditation training as measured by the reorganization of brain intrinsic functional connectivity and changes in cognitive and affective skills important for healthy aging and well-being.

The project is divided into four specific aims, organized in two work packages. WP1 will focus on the neurophysiology of aging, while WP2 will investigate the neurophysiology of meditation and attention and emotion regulations.

The PhD student will primarily work on WP2, but may also contribute to some research questions from WP1.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze large brain imaging datasets to investigate the impacts of meditation on brain function and cognition in older adults
  • Collaborate with a postdoctoral fellow and work with renowned researchers in the field
  • Develop and implement new methods for analyzing functional neuroimaging data
  • Present research findings at international conferences and publish in top-tier journals
Requirements
  • Master's degree in psychology, cognitive and/or affective neurosciences, or engineering applied to neuroimaging
