We are seeking a Legal Counsel for Energy Generation Projects F/M to be part of the Legal Department within the Integrated Power Business Unit, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance for the Flexible Power Generation (FPG) operations.
The FPG division is responsible for developing and managing a range of 'flexible' energy assets, including combined-cycle gas plants, hydroelectric facilities, and battery storage systems, primarily across Europe and the United States. These assets play a crucial role in balancing the intermittent nature of renewable energy and meeting the demands of national electricity grids.
As a legal counsel specializing in energy projects, and as part of a dedicated team of six legal professionals, your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering high-quality legal advice in response to tender invitations for new project developments;
- Ensuring the regulatory framework (authorizations, permits, concessions, etc.) for projects is secure and that asset management adheres to market regulations (EMIR, REMIT, MIFID);
- Securing land necessary for new projects or for the ongoing operation of existing assets (including sale and purchase agreements);
- Maintaining contractual integrity throughout the lifecycle of projects and assets (negotiating and drafting tender invitations, construction agreements, operational contracts, agreements with network operators, purchase agreements, energy sales contracts, partnership agreements, etc.);
- Overseeing pre-litigation and litigation matters related to this field.
In alignment with its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, TotalEnergies is significantly enhancing its global footprint across the entire electricity value chain, aiming to become a key player as an integrated power producer in a growing and positively oriented market.
In pursuit of this strategy, TotalEnergies has established an Integrated Power (IP) Business Unit within the Gas, Renewable & Power Division. This unit is tasked with defining TotalEnergies' electricity strategy and marketing its renewable and flexible electricity production.
The Role of Integrated Power Includes- Serving as the in-house authority on electricity markets and shaping TotalEnergies' electricity strategy;
- Marketing renewable assets and maximizing their value;
- Developing and managing a portfolio of flexible electricity generation assets (combined-cycle gas plants, hydroelectric facilities, battery storage);
- Providing electricity and energy services to customers, supporting their decarbonization efforts.
