Overview & Role Description

As a key member of a dedicated team, your primary responsibility will be to support the production processes within the Crystal Analysis Laboratory. With a solid foundation in experimental physics, materials science, or microelectronics, your tasks will include:

  • Fabricating crystal analyzers and related X-ray optical components
  • Engaging in the upkeep and calibration of manufacturing equipment
  • Recording and organizing technical documentation
  • Assessing the surface characteristics of optical materials
  • Overseeing inventory of raw materials and supplies
  • Operating predominantly in a cleanroom setting and assisting in the management of cleanroom activities
  • Suggesting enhancements to current methodologies and contributing to the innovation of new techniques
  • Supporting additional activities within the X-ray Optics Group as needed

Your role will necessitate regular work in a controlled environment, adhering to established protocols. The position involves handling delicate optical components.

Desired Qualifications

  • A technical degree (BSc, HND, HNC, or equivalent) in physics, chemistry, materials science, microelectronics, or a related field
  • Previous experience in machining, processing, polishing, or working with vacuum systems is advantageous, though we welcome applications from newcomers
  • Practical skills in machining (grinding, dicing, bonding) and optical polishing of fragile materials like silicon, along with familiarity with vacuum systems, are preferred
  • Strong manual dexterity and a keen eye for detail are crucial in this role
  • Capability to manage high-value, delicate optical components
  • Experience in inventory management of raw materials and supplies
  • Understanding of cleanroom protocols and practices
  • Basic proficiency in standard software tools such as Microsoft Office
  • A passion for refining existing production methods and exploring innovative processes for crystal analyzer fabrication
  • Ability to swiftly grasp technical specifications
  • Attributes such as initiative, effective communication, teamwork, organization, and methodical work habits are essential
  • You should be a collaborative team player skilled in troubleshooting and capable of multitasking
  • Proficiency in English (both spoken and written) is necessary, as it is the working language

Employment Conditions

This is a permanent position.

Your responsibilities will involve regular engagement in a cleanroom environment, following appropriate operational practices. The role includes the handling of sensitive optical components.
