This will ensure that the company remains compliant with indirect tax rules and regulations across multiple jurisdictions. This role focuses on high-level management with both internal and external parties.Main Responsibilities:Prepare and file Canadian sales tax returns (GST/PST/QST);Gather and prepare the required documentation for US sales and use tax and UK VAT returns;Review US sales and UK VAT returns prepared by an external party (Vertex, Inc.);Participate in the month-end process by reconciling tax accounts and preparing monthly journal entries;Prepare and file various US reports, such as unclaimed property, tangible personal property, and business licence renewals;Perform initial tax research for indirect tax-related matters (self-assessment);Prepare tax payment requests and initiate payments;Follow up with the Operations key person on store openings and ensure that store registrations in new states are done promptly;Support with the quarterly reconciliations of US customs duties;Ensure that the documentation and compliance processes are efficient while respecting internal control standards;Respond to tax inquiries and communicate with tax authorities on a regular basis;Support ongoing projects related to international expansion;Liaise with and supervise external consultants on a regular basis;Lead process improvement initiatives related to indirect tax compliance and reporting.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting;CPA designation is a strong asset;2+ years of experience in tax;Experience in corporate indirect tax compliance, with a solid understanding of multi-jurisdictional tax regulations, is an asset;Knowledge of Vertex, Inc. is a plus;Highly organized and efficient;Business acumen, a passionate personality, and excellent analytical skills;Strong communication skills;Sense of initiative and leadership;Ability to work cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, and external advisors;Ability to work in a team with other tax professionals;Interest for process improvement and demonstrated innovation;Bilingualism (French and English) is required to consult with multiple tax jurisdictions, both within and outside of Quebec.At GDI, you will be part of a growing organization that understands the importance of investing in people and offers you:A comprehensive compensation package that includes performance-driven bonuses;A group retirement savings program with employer matching;Flexible group insurance with personalized coverage that meets your needs;An employee discount at Garage and Dynamite;Exclusive private sample sales;A flexible vacation policy;And moreGDI has been repeatedly voted one of Montréal's Top Employers and one of Canada's Top Employers for Young People.Our promise...No day will be like the last-we aim to be better today than we were yesterday.
