**CONTEXT**:
Public establishment belonging to IMT (Institut Mines-Télécom), placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, IMT Nord Europe has three main objectives: providing our students with ethically responsible engineering practice enabling them to solve 21st century issues, carrying out our R&D activities leading to outstanding innovations and supporting territorial development through innovation and entrepreneurship. Ideally positioned at the heart of Europe, 1 hour away from Paris, 30 min from Brussels and 1h30 from London, IMT Nord Europe has strong ambitions to become a main actor of the current industrial transitions, digital and environmental, by combining education and research on engineering and digital technologies.
Located on two main campuses dedicated to research and education in Douai and Lille, IMT Nord Europe offers research facilities of almost 20,000m² in the following areas:
- Digital science,
- Energy and Environment,
- Materials and Processes.
**BRIEF**:
The link between human activities and climate change has now been clearly established, notably by the work of the IPCC.
The Carbon footprint of ITM Nord Europe covers its entire perimeter including research and teaching activities. It is led by the ‘Sustainable Development & Corporate Social Responsibility’ (DDRS) service from the ITM's General Management. In this context, improving the knowledge about the impact of research activities on greenhouse gas emissions, both on a national scale and locally at the laboratory, and then proposing strategies to reducing it, requires a detailed awareness, at the level of the laboratory and each staff member. This is what the Labos1point5 group is proposing, with a methodology tailored to the problems faced by French research laboratories. The aim is to identify levers for action at laboratory level to reduce its carbon footprint.
**Objectives**
With the cooperation of the DDRS service:
(i) you will estimate the carbon footprint of CERI DS's activities using the approach proposed by the Labos1point5 collective;
(ii) analyse CERI DS's main carbon-emitting activities;
(iii) you will identify courses of action to reduce the impact of research activities;
(iv) you will present an educational summary of your work to the members of the laboratory.
