**Context**
The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe's leading research facility for scientific research using neutrons. Every year, we host over 2000 visits by scientists who come to the Institute to carry out world-class research.
**Your tasks**
- ** Neutron Strain Imaging at SALSA**: Conduct high-resolution strain measurements using the SALSA beamline to investigate internal stress gradients and deformation mechanisms in additively manufactured metal components. Develop experimental setups and analytical tools tailored to the demands of in-situ studies.
- ** Data Analysis and Dissemination**: Process and analyze experimental data using advanced computational methods. Publish findings in high-impact scientific journals and present results at international conferences.
**Your profile**
- PhD in materials science, physics, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline, with a strong focus on additive manufacturing, neutron scattering, or imaging techniques.
- Demonstrated experience in neutron or synchrotron-based characterization methods, particularly strain imaging, neutron imaging, and polarization techniques.
- Autonomy in experimental design, data acquisition, and analysis for complex material systems.
- Strong programming skills for data processing and simulation (e.g. Python).
- Excellent communication skills, with a track record of publications and presentations in relevant fields.
- As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.
