Embedded Systems Engineer

Blossom is an early-stage biotech startup on a mission to transform biology with digital microfluidics and AI. Our first goal is to build a highly versatile and scalable platform for molecular and cell biology protocol automation based on electrowetting technology. We have an innovative, result-oriented work environment where we foster ambition and dedication. **What you will do** We are looking for a skilled **Embedded Systems Engineer** specializing in PCB design to join our team and participate in developing the control system for our inaugural product. In your daily work, you will do PCB design, embedded systems development, and assembly of components (various modules, and sensors). More specifically, you will: - Support the design, implementation and integration of electronic components: - Design of multi-layer PCBs for components of our apparatus - Implementation of cascading high voltage shift register circuits - Development of embedded control systems using MCUs and MPUs such as an Arduino or ESP32 interfaced with a Raspberry Pi, or Industrial SBCs - C, C++ and Python code writing for component interfacing - Design of a precision impedance measurement feedback loop - Support in the assembly of PCBs, including the use of automated pick & place machines for SMT assembly - Develop and execute testing procedures for PCBs and embedded systems - Learn and stay up to date with trends in PCB design, embedded systems, biotech instrumentation and biology. You will work hand-in-hand with our CTO and an interdisciplinary team (genetic engineering, AI & software, bio-laboratory automation) and be an integral part of an ambitious and exciting startup project from its inception. You'll have access to our state-of-the-art in-house lab and cutting-edge assembly line, featuring an automated pick & place platform for precise SMD component placement, a reflow oven for fast PCB assembly, oscilloscopes, 3D printers for rapid prototyping & custom part creation, and an array of other high-tech equipment. **Who you are** - You have an engineering degree (5y diploma) and 0-5 years of work experience in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or related fields and a strong understanding of the design of analog or digital circuits - The role is also open if you have a technician degree (3y diploma) and 5+ years of work experience; - You have over 1 year of experience in PCB design and embedded systems development - You have previous experience or knowledge with one or more of the following: KiCad, Altium, Cadence - An autonomous, committed, enthusiastic person with a "can-do", creative and challenging mindset - You have excellent communication skills and are fluent in English - Strong expertise in Microcontroller platforms (Arduino and/or ESP32) & Single-board computers (Raspberry Pi and/or UP Board series) - Touchscreen integration and sensor interfacing, basic understanding of camera integration in embedded systems - Knowledge of EMC/EMI design principles - Designing circuits with shift registers, preferentially high voltage and cascading - Knowledge of IPC standards for PCB design and assembly (IPC-A-610, IPC-2221) - Designing PCBs with multiple power domains - Thermal analysis **What we value** We value a positive mindset, collaboration, a sense of ownership, transparency, the ability to embrace ambiguity and a sense of humor to enjoy the journey.
