The IOC Marine Policy and Regional Coordination Section of the IOC engages with diverse partners to develop science-based tools and approaches for sustainable ocean management, including marine spatial planning, sustainable ocean planning and management, and the management of large marine ecosystems. It also leads the coordination of the UN Ocean Decade. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Head of the IOC Marine Policy and Regional Coordination Section.

**Responsibilities**:

- Document existing good practices in evidence-based rapid climate vulnerability assessments in ocean areas worldwide through desk research.
- Organize an international meeting to bring together scientific and indigenous knowledge innovations in climate vulnerability assessments with ocean management decision-makers.
- Develop a step-by-step guidance for a standardized approach to rapid climate vulnerability assessment suitable for local decision-makers, including those managing UNESCO World Heritage marine areas.
- Coordinate a pilot test of the climate vulnerability assessment guidance, identifying priority climate-resilient measures.
- Design and publish a user-friendly online platform to host the assessment guidance.
- Maintain and update a database of contacts of key marine protected area management teams and relevant authorities involved in ocean planning and management.
- Assist in developing a communication strategy to disseminate project results within the context of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

**Education**:
Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in environmental or climate studies, preferably focused on ocean conservation, planning, or management.

**Work Experience**:

- At least 2 years of experience in ocean conservation, climate and ocean sciences, or marine protected area management, with a good understanding of scientific basics for climate resilience.
- Experience in identifying and documenting innovations in ocean science and climate vulnerability assessments.
