**Duties**:
The Scientific Affairs Specialist reports directly to the ESTH (Environment, Science, Technology, and Health) Counselor. As the sole Locally Employed Staff (LES) for a 5-person ESTH section, s/he has lead responsibility for creating and maintaining networks of high-level contacts in the French government, NGO, press, business, and academic sectors on environment, science, technology and health issues. S/he gathers information through networking, media and internet reviews; alerts senior Embassy officials to issues and trends affecting U.S. interests; drafts complex analytical reports; proposes tactics to advance U.S. interests; introduces FSOs (Foreign Service Officers) to contacts. S/he plans schedules for visiting USG officials; prepares written briefing materials; and may serve as interpreter. S/he backs up the Economic section as needed.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental policy, science policy, renewable energy, or public health, including with an international component is required. This work should include demonstrated experience in complex written research and analysis, project organization, and building contact networks.

- Education Requirements:
A Masters Degree in environmental science or policy, international relations, renewable energy, public health, a physical or life science, or related public policy, including with an international component or related Majors are required.

**SALARY**: the **annual gross salary includes**: the profit-sharing allowance, the vacation allowance, the 13-month bonus and the “Comité d’Entreprise” allowance.
**MEAL TICKETS**: Meal tickets have a face value of EUR 8.25/day. 60% of the daily amount is paid by the U.S. Government. An employee contribution of EUR 3.30 per ticket will be deducted in payroll. The number of meal tickets is limited to 202 workdays per year.
**TRANSPORTATION**:Employees are eligible for a reimbursement of 50% of the cost of public transportation passes purchased for commuting purposes.
**HOLIDAYS**: The U.S. Missions in France observe eleven U.S. holidays per year and up to ten French holidays.
**For EFMs**, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
