**Job Description Summary**: Role Summary/Purpose
Today's AC power grid is increasingly being pushed to its limits. The energy transition drives an unprecedented growth in demand for electricity, whilst generation is becoming more decentralized, more remote, more variable and generally grid-connected through an inverter interface. Planning processes and supply chain limitations are slowing down the required AC grid expansions, which means the existing grid is operated closer to its ratings and stability margins. GE Vernova’s Grid Systems Integration business line offers a full set of flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) technologies to assist grid owners and operators in maintaining reliability and adequacy by managing voltage levels, optimizing power flows and mitigating instabilities.

GE Vernova is currently looking for an experienced technical specialist to join us as Consulting Engineer for FACTS.

**Essential Responsibilities**:

- Consulting Engineers are highly sought after within the GE Vernova business to provide expertise on challenging problems and to facilitate interfaces with adjacent technical domains. They are likely to have a number of publications, including conference papers, and patents. These professionals lead major technical initiatives, advocate for technological advancement, chair design reviews, mentor Principal Engineers and senior engineers, and benchmark their technology domain. They define the need for new design practices, author and review design standards, ensure lessons learned are documented and disseminated, and deliver effective technical presentations to upper management and external parties._
- Consulting Engineers lead R&D and product enhancement projects with broad scope and significant impact on the business, acting as recognized experts in specific fields. They are tasked with major and complex assignments that bear long-term business implications, contributing to overall strategy and navigating complex issues within their area of expertise._
- Key Responsibilities:_
- _ Serve as a recognized technical authority in FACTS solutions both internally and externally, and act as technical advisor to senior leadership levels_
- _ Actively contribute to and drive standardization, coordinate working group activities and represent GE Vernova in IEC/CIGRE and similar professional bodies, task forces and industry committees_
- _ Gather external information to determine future market needs_
- _ Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and maintain a strategic FACTS technology roadmap_
- _ Suggest areas for technological advancement and recommend approaches/programs to pursue_
- _ Evaluating and championing innovative ideas_
- _ Contribute to Intellectual Property management in terms of:_
- _ The creation of patents _
- _The review of patents to ensure freedom to operate_
- _ Oversee various R&D programmes through to industrialisation, integrating new technology smoothly into production and ensuring successful project delivery_
- _ Chair and act as technical authority in technology and product development gate reviews_
- _ Collaborate and promote technology synergies across GE Vernova businesses of Power Conversion Systems, Grid Automation and Power Technology, utilizing shared expertise and resources._
- _ Support the commercial teams with their technical business development and sales_
- _ Support supply chain and procurement departments with technical expertise_
- _ Lead/support study teams addressing identified project challenges in focused technical areas_
- _ Provide support quality teams on major quality issues and act as technical authority in root cause analysis processes_
- _ Act as technical authority in competence management_
- _ Identify and recommend improvements in specific discipline knowledge or technical training needs._
- _ Contribute to creating structured training plans and associated training material _
- _Delivering training_
- _ Mentor others to deliver training_
- _ Act as technical authority in principal and senior competence assessments_
- _ Consult with and support the Chief Engineer’s Office in executing the office’s technical objectives to implement best practice technologies and methods._

**Qualifications/Requirements**:

- _ Proven experience in:_
- _ a power system engineering capacity_
- _ acting as mentor, including to principal engineers_
- _ research and development in power system stability_
- _ Deep understanding of _AC power system operation, the various types of instability phenomena, and associated analysis techniques_
- _ Knowledge and understanding of:_
- _ FACTS technologies and operating strategies_
- _ Primary hardware technologies_
- _ Control & protection algorithms, software architecture & hardware platform_
- _ Future developments in FACTS e.g. grid-forming, inclusion of energy storage_
- _ FACTS market and supply chain_
- _ National long term grid expansion plans for FACTS_
