**Instrumenting AVX Sensors Sim with metrics**:
**/** **Summary / Role Purpose**:
Autonomous vehicles will travel millions of miles in the virtual world before the first driverless cars hit the road. ANSYS is building the software tool chain to demonstrate safety in the virtual world before commercial deployment.

Observability is the extent to which the internal state or condition of a complex system based only on knowledge of its external outputs can be understood. The more observable a system, the easier it is to quickly and accurately get from an identified performance problem to its root cause, without additional testing or coding.

Observability is traditionally based on the following three pillars:

- metrics, which are a set of measurements about a service, captured at runtime
- logs, which are timestamped text records with metadata.

The goal of this internship is to instrument the code with metrics, based on OpenTelemetry technology, in order to have reliable measurements of AVX Sensors Sim performances.

**/ **Key Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Add measures for specific Key Performance Indicator (simulation time/time spent in AVX Sensors Sim)
- Define abstractions for probe to be located at key points
- Conduct measurement campaigns on dedicated scenarios
