ArcelorMittal is the world's leading steel and mining company, with a presence in 60 countries and primary steelmaking facilities in 16 countries. In 2021, ArcelorMittal had revenues of $76.6 billion and crude steel production of 69.1 million metric tonnes, while iron ore production reached 50.9 million metric tonnes. Our purpose is to produce ever smarter steels that have a positive benefit for people and planet. Steels made using innovative processes which use less energy, emit significantly less carbon and reduce costs. Steels that are cleaner, stronger and reusable. Steels for electric vehicles and renewable energy infrastructure that will support societies as they transform through this century. With steel at our core, our inventive people and an entrepreneurial culture at heart, we will support the world in making that change. This is what we believe it takes to be the steel company of the future.
You will be working for Maizières Process research centre located in Maizières-lès-Metz, France, which main mission is to contribute to ArcelorMittal’s production lines competitiveness and sustainability by the development or improvement of innovative processes or processing routes (from Ironmaking to metallic coating). The objectives of the laboratory are answering the needs of our operations (mineral processing, steel upstream operations, steel downstream operations, product quality, transversal issues). We are able to offer new technologies, standard solutions, technical assistances and knowledge building.
As the world’s leading steel producer, ArcelorMittal has a responsibility to be at the forefront of a transition in steel that achieves the goals of the Paris Agreement. Steel industry accounts for some 7-9% of global carbon emissions today. Iron ore reduction is where the vast majority of carbon emissions come from in steel industry. The carbon challenge in the coming decades is therefore in the transformation of the way in which we turn iron ore into steel. ArcelorMittal already operates direct reduction plants in Argentina, Canada, Germany, Mexico, South Africa, and the USA. Several new direct reduction plants are to be erected in Canada and across Europe thus displaying ArcelorMittal's contribution in decarbonisation of steel industry.
