**Duties**:
The position is works on the Economic team within the combined Economic-Environment, Science, Technology and Health section of the U.S. Embassy. Incumbent is one of three substantive specialists in a 14-person section, who researches and reports on the full range of bilateral economic issues, with lead responsibility in several areas. Incumbent also provides related services to section staff.

**RESEARCH OVERSIGHT**
- Lead on providing background and history on economic-related policy matters and government policy decision making to better educate officers and Washington on policy developments. This sophisticated understanding of the French political economy assists officers to interpret French economic developments and place them in the appropriate historical/political context.
- The incumbent contributes strategically to determine priority daily information from all media sources and government reports for use in written and oral daily media reviews and briefings to Mission and Washington officials.
- Oversees work of other Econ-ESTH LE staff in the section as they prepare combined media reviews to include strategically determining top priority daily information from off-line media, government reports, and the specialized press.
- Helps to identify key topics for the combined section's staff to prioritize in consultation with officers and section leadership.
- Does in-depth analytic and/or research projects as assigned.

**REPORTING**
- Drafts short and long reporting for Washington and internal use on a broad range of economic issues as assigned or self-initiated (not otherwise mentioned below).
- Creates a strategy to report on French regulatory affairs, transportation, political-economic developments, trade, digital issues, and industrial policy, among other emerging issues.
- Drafts and translates speeches and contributes to drafting internal Embassy memos - including for Embassy leadership.
- Provides quality control for biographies and other written products produced by the Econ-ESTH protocol assistant.

**ECON CONTACT DEVELOPMENT/NETWORKING**
- Meets one -on-one with government, civil society, think tanks, academic, and private sector contacts to support section reporting.- Briefs and accompanies officers and Washington visitors (to include VVIPs) on the full range of portfolio areas and sets up/accompanies them to policy meetings when requested, acting as interpreter and notetaker as required.
- Acts as liaison with economic think-tanks, government economic council, associations, and NGOs.

**SECTION SUPPORT AND MANAGEMENT**
- Backs up other locally employed staff members during their absence.
- Manages one to two seasonal interns.
- Manages meeting and event organization and logistics as needed, including recommending which interlocutors to meet with and invite to events.

**OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED**
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications and Evaluations**:

- Requirements:
EXPERIENCE: At least five years of progressively responsible experience in economic affairs, business, government, non-profits, or policy analysis.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Thorough understanding of France's economy, economics structure, institutions, and foreign and domestic policies and France's integration on these issues at the European Union level. Understanding of U.S. foreign economic policies vis-à-vis France and the European Union, as well as internal economic research and reporting procedures and requirements.
- Education Requirements:
Mandatory: Possession of a Master's degree in Economics, Political Science, Business, International Relations, or History.

**SKILLS AND ABILITIES**: Ability to plan, organize, and execute complex research projects and high-level events. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion principles in the workplace. Ability to rapidly synthesize complex economic reports from key officials and media into concise texts and verbal briefs. Ability to prepare factual and analytical reports with little supervision and correction. Excellent analytical skills.
