**R&D Engineer - Collision and Contact Detection**

**Summary / Role Purpose**

Ansys is looking for an R&D Engineer to implement some innovative methods for contact detection for our Mechanical simulation software. In this role, the R&D Engineer will participate in the planning, implementation, testing and maintenance of next-generation contact detection with a focus on High Performance Computing and Distributed Computing on both CPU and GPU.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**
- Performs moderately complex development activities, including the design, implementation, maintenance, testing and documentation of software modules and sub-systems
- Understands and employs best practices
- Performs moderately complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products. Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions
- Understands the marketing and technical requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues
- Works under the general supervision of a development manager

**Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience**
- MS in Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science
- Academic, research or industry experience in scientific software development
- Good knowledge and experience with C++, CUDA or OpenCL
- Passion for understanding complex problems and crafting innovative technical solutions and algorithms
- An inquisitive and rigorous mindset

**Preferred Qualifications and Skills**
- Experience in collision, contact and interference detection
- Familiar with CUDA or OpenCL
- Experience in any of the following: Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), CAD Modelling
- Experience in a large-scale commercial software development environment
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team
