Staff is present on three campuses in Grenoble, in close collaboration with other research and higher education institutions (University Grenoble Alpes, CNRS, CEA, INRAE,), but also with key economic players in the area. Contexte et atouts du poste **General information** The research engineer will be part of the Thoth team, which is specialized in computer vision and machine learning, and will be supervised by Julien Mairal. Thoth is one of the most recognized European research team in machine learning and computer vision, participate to several European projects (including ERCs), and has many international academic collaborations (CMU, Berkeley), and industrial ones (Facebook, Criteo, Valeo, Google, Naver Labs). **Location**: The research engineers will work at the Inria Grenoble research center near Grenoble. The unit includes more than 600 people, within 26 research teams and 10 support services. Grenoble is a lively city which hosts many foreign students and researchers. Located in the heart of the French Alps its direct surroundings offer great outdoor recreation including skiing, cycling, and hiking. Grenoble is well-connected to Lyon and Geneva airports and Paris can be reached from Grenoble in 3h by train. Mission confiée This position will imply improving the implemention, design and features of a library called Cyanure. It is an open-source C++ software package with a Python 3 interface. The goal of Cyanure is to provide state-of-the-art solvers for learning linear models, based on stochastic variance-reduced stochastic optimization with cceleration mechanisms and Quasi-Newton principles Principales activités - Maintain the CPU version of the framework -> Update CI and code depending on the dependencies upgrades- Fix newly identified bugs. Continuously monitor for newly identified bugs, - both internally discovered and reported by users. - Implement some of the solvers on GPU with a focus on the memory footprint - Create the user documentation for the GPU version. - Test the non regression between the CPU and GPU implementation - Benchmark the GPU version regarding the CPU version and open source solvers. - Contribute to open source benchmarking frameworks if necessary. - Integrate the GPU solvers to the base Cyanure implementation As a research engineer, you are also expected to maintain the team cluster from a hardware and software perspective. (S)he should also have a good background in computer science, understand mathematics, and be interested in statistical machine learning. Previous experience with deep learning libraries (PyTorch) will be important.
