**Apprenticeship - Direct Lithium Extraction / Process Development Engineer (F/M)**

**Context**:
The mission of the Business Division New Development and Transformation (NDT) is to innovate and develop new technologies, products, digital solutions in connection with the new areas in which Axens wishes to expand and in connection with the move to ecological transition.

We propose that you join us through an IFP School apprenticeship/internship within NDT Process & Equipment Innovation department

In this Department we develop technologies, processes and equipment for new and growing markets in which Axens wants to establish itself and/or grow its position (Biofuels and biochemicals, CO2 capture, battery materials, etc). The present apprenticeship is dedicated to the development of a process to extract lithium from different water sources (salar, geothermal, oil/gas production) in order to be used in the fabrication of lithium-ion batteries in a second step.

**Missions**:
**New process development is carried out in collaboration between IFPEN R&D and Axens NDT Engineers.

You will be part of our development teams, hence receiving the guidance of highly skilled engineers, as you discover and gain in-depth insights into Axens technologies process design.

You will participate in unit design development for Direct Lithium Extraction.

This will be achieved through:

- Participating in process flow scheme optimization (maximization of yield, purity or minimization of utilities consumption depending on business case)
- Unit simulations - using chemical engineering software, starting from the bases defined by specialists up to Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) development,
- Techno-economical comparison of different solutions in order to select the best possible process scheme,
- Equipment sizing (Reactors, Adsorbers, Pumps, Compressors, Filters etc.),
- Participating in consultation of equipment suppliers to select the adequate equipment (preparation of equipment specification, evaluation of suppliers’ proposals, clarification meetings with suppliers),
- Depending on the progress of the work, compilation of the design rules developed during the apprenticeship in process design guide to be used for development of technical proposals and/or process design packages by other Axens engineers.
- This position will include regular exchanges between Axens and IFPEN.
