Summary
The R&D Innovation Senior Manager is responsible for designing upfront the product in line with marketing briefs and brand DNAs. He/ she’s responsible for managing scientific communication and supporting marketing needs in term of differentiation strategies vs competition around new product development related to the Luxury Cosmetics brand he/she is assigned to.
The role has significant impact throughout the product launch with responsibility for delivering in time, at the right cost and quality levels and ensuring the products are line in with the brands DNA.
This position works closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders such as Packaging Development, Initiative leaders, Procurement and Quality whilst also partnering with Marketing Leaders. A strong collaboration with Packaging is required.
The position requires makeup strong formula development and formulation expertise, innovation processes knowledge and business-oriented, proactive and creative mindset.
Representative activities
NEW INITIATIVES
Leads the scouting and the design of new formulas accordingly to the marketing briefs and in line with packaging restraints, Involves the R&D Project Specialist;
Links product design to brand equity;
Defines brand equity differentiations from a technical point of view and helps Marketing to identify points of differentiation vs competition;
Identifies best “make or buy” option with the guidance of the R&D Principal Quality by Design Specialist regarding production and quality capabilities;
Evaluates products and builds KPIs for formula comparison (clean, natural, organic );
Ensures a sustainability approach is always taken in consideration;
Works on actives selection and specific active developments for the brands;
Defines efficacy testing to be done vs marketing brief and commercial priority and ensures budget follow up. Works on consumer testing to be aligned with the final product communication;
Builds the scientific dossier for each project to support artworks, digital, and PR communication. Links the formula ingredients to the formula attributes. Ensures the claimed features are impactful from a business perspective.
TRENDS/ INNOVATION
Attends fairs and conferences. Scouts new trends;
Organizes scientific and technical intelligence. Considers and approaches new Third-Party Manufacturers depending on their innovation capabilities with the assistance of Procurement;
Stays in close relationships with raw material suppliers;
Defines sustainability, clean formula requirements with the assistance of internal R&D counterparts;
Drives innovation strategy for the brands. Defines and implements innovation processes (design thinking, lean start up );
Briefs internal R&D on future needs of lux cosmetics and anticipates those needs.
Business partnering/ TPM Relationship Management/ Leadership
Gives imput on new trends, ensures new products have clear points of differentiation vs competition. Influences the business with new ideas, concepts
Establishes strong relationships with suppliers in order to access innovations;
Arranges, attends and participates in stakeholder meetings. Raises questions and provides information to identify alternative and innovative solutions.
Team Management
Manages one Innovation Specialist.

Master degree
Technical knowledge in makeup, strong formulation expertise and raw materials. Technical knowledge in packaging is a plus
Min. 10 years relevant experience working in close partnership with multi-functional team (Packaging, Procurement, Quality and Initiative leaders and specifically with Marketing.
