As Radar Calibration Transponders Engineer within the Ground Stations Competence Area (GStats CA) you will provide engineering support to the development and evolutions of EUMETSAT’s ground segment systems, in particular to the EUMETSAT Polar System‘s new generation on-ground transponders, in charge of the calibration of the scatterometer instruments on board of Metop and Metop-SG spacecraft.
Close collaboration with our international Ground Stations operations and engineering teams will offer you enriching experience of contributing to the full lifecycle of the systems under your responsibility.
**What you’ll be doing**
- Manage engineering activities to develop and evolve ground transponders and associated hosting infrastructure and services:
- Definition of concepts, analyses and trade-offs;
- Definition, engineering and management of technical requirements in accordance to identified user’s needs;
- Support and follow-up on design and development;
- Supervision and support for integration, validation and verification activities;
- Support anomaly review boards, configuration and quality management.
- Provide technical leadership in the area of C-band radar technologies;
Additionally, you will:
- Support the definition and implementation of a long-term strategy for cost effective maintenance of Ground Stations systems and sites;
- Manage industrial contracts;
- Support the definition and set-up of a Ground Station RF and Signal Processing Lab including system baselining and know-how management;
- Acquire, maintain and foster knowledge on CCSDS and ECSS standards, ground stations engineering related topics;
- Certain activities will require travelling within Europe and/or going on business trips to remote sites where ground station are located such as Svalbard (Norway), and Turkey. These business trips could have durations of several weeks.

**Requirements**:
**Qualifications**:
University degree (or equivalent) in Telecommunication Engineering, or any other relevant discipline.
**Skills and Experience**:
- Background in Radar systems engineering, preferably involving the design, development, testing or maintenance of ground transponders. The experience shall also include:
- Experience of development, installation and maintenance activities following established engineering processes, relevant standards and recommendations (e.g. STAN-AG/REC, ISO/IEC, etc.);
- Competence and proven experience in Verification and Validation (V&V) activities, preferably in the area of Radar systems, their associated infrastructure and host site services;
- Strong motivation to develop towards full professionalism in an international environment in the area of Ground Stations System Engineering;
- Readiness to learn / expand the own knowledge combined with excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work in a team;
- For this role some of the following knowledge would be advantageous:
- Space to Ground and Ground to Space communications systems including link budgets;
- Radiometric measurements for satellite navigation;
- Relevant experience in project management.
