**Job description**:
**Subject: Development and Optimization of a Handwriting Recognition Solution for Images**
MyScript has a working prototype using deep learning techniques to recognize handwriting in images (notebooks, tables, etc.). However, this solution presents two major challenges:
Insufficient performance: slow processing on complex images.
Accuracy problems: difficulty in correctly recognizing handwriting on specific media, such as notebooks with small or large squares.
The aim of the internship will be to assess the limitations of this solution, and then make targeted improvements in terms of speed and quality.
Main responsibilities:
- Evaluation of the existing solution:
- Test the prototype's performance on a set of real images (notebooks, tables).
- Measure key indicators: processing time, accuracy, robustness in the face of different configurations.
- Research and development:
- Identify technical vulnerabilities.
- Propose improvement approaches based on recent technologies (e.g. optimized neural networks, data augmentation, image processing).
- Optimization and implementation:
- Optimize models to make them faster and more efficient.
- Adapt the solution to the problem cases identified, in particular notebooks with small and large squares.
- Validation and documentation:
- Test improvements on diversified data sets.
- Document the solutions developed to facilitate their maintenance and evolution.
**Profile**:
- Student in 5th year of a Master's degree in computer science (or equivalent).
- Solid skills in deep learning (PyTorch, TensorFlow or equivalent).
- Good knowledge of computer vision (image pre-processing, OCR, etc.).
- Curiosity and the ability to make suggestions on complex technical issues.
A plus
- Initial experience with image processing frameworks (OpenCV, PIL).
- Familiarity with annotation and data management systems for supervised learning.
