**BRIEF**:
Summary: Energy sobriety, especially in the digital world, is among the key issues to be addressed to tackle the environmental challenges of our time. While the environmental impact of wireless networks has been neglected for years, the paradigm is currently changing, pushing towards the design of energy efficient networks and green communications. In addition, security, relying upon the concept of physical layer security, becomes a vital feature of wireless networks. We consider here two main research paths: either maximizing the secrecy energy efficiency, defined as a trade-off between the network achievable secrecy sum-rate and the consumed power; or considering just enough networks, where only the necessary amount of power required to meet the end users quality of service (QoS) and security constraints is consumed. Furthermore, communication systems are composed of many hardware elements presenting nonlinear characteristics, which are rarely taken into account, but nonetheless reduce the signal to noise ratio, leading to lower data rate as well as energy efficiency degradation.

Our research project aims to address these issues by developing new resource allocation algorithms that maximize the secrecy energy efficiency, or minimize the power consumption while reaching end users QoS constraints, when nonlinearities are taken into account.

**ACTIVITIES**:
Within this PhD, we intent to focus on the following objectives:
**Objective 1**: Modeling the nonlinearities and deriving the relevant metrics;
**Objective 2**: Designing resource allocation algorithms for SEE maximization and just enough network with security enhanced QoS.

The obtained results will continuously be disseminated through standard scientific channels and open access publications. We will target peer reviewed major international conferences of the domain, such as IEEE ICC, IEEE Globecom, IEEE SPAWC... as well as adequate IEEE, ACM, Springer journals (IEEE Trans. on Wireless Communications, IEEE Trans. On Communications, IEEE Trans. On Green Communications and Networking ). Publications will also be made available on HAL. Moreover, the source codes used for our publications ill be accessible in an open manner.

Public establishment belonging to IMT (Institut Mines-Télécom), placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry, IMT Nord Europe has three main objectives: providing our students with ethically responsible engineering practice enabling them to solve 21st century issues, carrying out our R&D activities leading to outstanding innovations and supporting territorial development through innovation and entrepreneurship. Ideally positioned at the heart of Europe, 1 hour away from Paris, 30 min from Brussels and 1h30 from London, IMT Nord Europe has strong ambitions to become a main actor of the current industrial transitions, digital and environmental, by combining education and research on engineering and digital technologies.

Located on two main campuses dedicated to research and education in Douai and Lille, IMT Nord Europe offers research facilities of almost 20,000m² in the following areas:
