# CONTEXT

Copilex is building tomorrow’s Legal AI to make law more equally accessible to everyone.

Founded by an experienced dispute resolution lawyer and an experienced AI engineer, Copilex develops a Legal AI assistant that reduces by an order of magnitude the time required to perform legal tasks.

Our current focus is on contract analysis and drafting - traditionally time-consuming processes where errors can have significant financial implications. Through strategic partnerships with leading law firms, corporate legal departments, and institutions, we are building a comprehensive dataset of complex, real-world, legal reasoning tasks. Our innovative approach combines Large Language Models (LLMs) and other advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to create the market's most efficient legal assistance solution.

We are looking for talented trainees to join our ML expert team to accelerate this development.

# MISSION

We are looking for a trainee ML researcher to help us improve the evaluation and the performance of our AI assistant in real-world contract analysis and drafting scenarios.

With guidance from our CTO (a PhD in AI), and in collaboration with our partner lab from Telecom Paris, you work will be to:

- Review literature of ML for document comparaison, analysis and drafting, both applied to legal and beyond
- Collaborate with legal professional to understand their contract review practice and how AI can best assist them
- Improve our datasets and benchmarks for contract analysis and drafting tasks
- Work on exciting new architecture ideas (agentic workflows, LLM-powered information extraction ) and conduct experiments to evaluate them

# PROFILE

This job is for you if:

- You have a strong theoretical foundation in Machine Learning
- You are fully operational in Python and write clean and easily comprehensible code
- You have a scientist mindset and work rigorously
- You have a pragmatic and iterative approach to problem-solving, prioritizing quickly deliverable solutions over theoretical perfection
- You are proactive in your communication to your team, and know how to solicit help from others when needed
- You like a startup environment with huge perspectives, challenges, and moving fast

Nice to have:

- Practical experience with LLMs and MLOps tools such as LangChain or LlamaIndex
- Practical experience with training NLP models and using frameworks such as spaCy, PyTorch, Tensorflow,
- Interest in Legal AI and legal reasoning

# INFORMATION
- Position: 4 to 6 months internship
- Place: Paris
- Availability: February 2025
- Compensation: 1 850€ brut / month
- Remote work policy: partial remote up to 4 day/week
- Possible post-internship recruitment if there is a mutual fit
