**About the role**: Your role is to carry out a thesis on "Cooperative AI for future sustainable networks" - ** Overall context and problem statement**: The digital transition impacts all economic sectors, particularly the role of the operator, with the technical fragmentation of networks (Cloud RAN, edge computing...), the fragmentation of network actors (Towercos, private networks, multi-actor networks...), and the future generation of networks (smart networks, 6G...). In parallel, the environmental transition leads us towards multi-dimensional accountability: financial, carbon, critical resources. In such a context, the prospective challenges of an actor quickly require highly complex systems. At the same time, artificial intelligence increasingly helps us rationalize certain decisions, its use however is unfortunately not always rationalized, and its optimal conditions of use therefore remain to be defined. - Scientific objective - results and challenges to address: The aim of the PhD is to define the optimal conditions for using AI in prospective scenarios, both in terms of performance and, more importantly, in terms of the exploitability of results (granularity, explainability, etc.). This work will be conducted through several prospective "games" related to climate issues (AI4GCC, IRIS) and networks & climate (to be co-developed). The second challenge lies in the reinforcement learning tool. We particularly want to be able to model chaotic environments, which will have an impact on the selection of a good reward function. This function should also be able to finely consider the concept of a dual objective: a common objective (e.g., preserving the planet) and a selfish objective of maximizing the agent's performance. Finally, since this thesis is situated in a prospective environment, new evaluation methods will be necessary, as the optimal outcome of the "game" is never known in advance. **About you**: **Skills (scientific and technical) and personal qualities required by the position**: Your analytical mind is one of your strengths, and you like to understand the world around you through mathematics. You are able to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of mathematical modeling, and know how to use the appropriate computer tools to exploit it. You know how to analyze data to understand the main dynamics of a complex system. You are independent and rigorous. You know how to document your work in a methodical and systematic way. You have a great ability to absorb a large amount of information to extract a summary and identify the most relevant sources. You are comfortable with writing, both in French and English, and have good communication skills **Required training** With a higher education background (masters or engineering degree in computer science), you possess a strong competence in artificial intelligence and mathematical modeling. Knowledge in game design or simulation is appreciated. Familiarity with the architectures of fixed and mobile networks would be a plus. **Desired experience (internships,)** Driven by your desire to contribute to prospective issues, you have a first experience in artificial intelligence and in the creation of a simulation environment. Immersion experience in a research team would be a plus. **Additional information**: You are exploring a new field of study with immense potential and impact. Your work can materialize in the form of a contribution to the IRIS project by Carbone4, a project in which several members of the research team you will be integrated into are involved. Your mission is directly linked to the prospective strategy of numerous digital companies, including Orange. Your work will serve to question the use of artificial intelligence for prospective challenges and contribute to the discussion on the creation of coopetitive agents. **Department**: Orange Innovation brings together the research and innovation activities and expertise of the Group's entities and countries. We work every day to ensure that Orange is recognized as an innovative operator by its customers and we create value for the Group and the Brand in each of our projects. With 720 researchers, thousands of marketers, developers, designers and data analysts, it is the expertise of our 6,000 employees that fuels this ambition every day. Orange Innovation anticipates technological breakthroughs and supports the Group's countries and entities in making the best technological choices to meet the needs of our consumer and business customers. Within Orange Innovation, you will be integrated into a cutting-edge research team specializing in future networks. You will be part of a research ecosystem alongside engineers who are implementing the Group's carbon neutrality strategy by 2040, experts from communities such as "Future Networks" and "Data & AI," as well as the modeling team of the IRIS project by Carbone4. **Contract**: Thesis
