POLITICO’s Research & Analysis Division is looking fora freelance Research & Data Economist to cover EU Affairs, based in Berlin. The workload is flexible, with onboarding in December/January and an emphasis in February-December 2026.
**Responsibilities**
As a freelance analyst, you will:
- Write recurring reports on strategic topics that convey in-depth information about upcoming relevant developments on the EU level
- Search and find primary raw data, conduct independent descriptive analyses of real-world data for the relevant topics, and visualize your findings in compelling graphs
- Deliver high-quality written reports that translate complex economic issues and quantitative analyses into clear, actionable insightsCollaborate closely with other analysts in POLITICO’s Research & Analysis Division
**Your background**
- A master’s degree in economics, quantitative political science, or a comparable discipline
- Three or more years of experience in academic and non-academic economic research on the EU, consulting, journalism, or similar work covering EU Affairs in the below policy areas
- Strong research skills, analytical skills, and quantitative skills - ability to synthesize complex issues, and assess economic impact (using data analysis tools such as Excel, R, and Python), and communicate findings clearly
- Exceptional writing skills in English: clear, persuasive, and audience-focused communication in English
- Project management skills: ability to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality work independentlyTeam collaboration: experience working with policy and data analysts to produce impactful analysis

- Successful applicants will be part of a freelance pool and work with POLITICO on a project-by-project basis, with the opportunity to contribute to multiple projects over time.
