Our product?
A unique patented platform that tightly integrates a punching bag and its state of the art shock absorption system with a 4K ultra-low-latency ultra-short-throw projector, a gaming computer, and more than 20 sensors (2D & 3D cameras, accelerometers…).

Our local perception stack provides full situational awareness to our cloud-based multi-agent AI, making our coach alive and able to monitor and train.

Talk to us We are looking for a talented, hands-on Junior Mechanical Engineer to join our team.

Who You Are

GROWL is seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join its tech team. (This position is open to an engineer with a few years of experience, and also for a first job)

You have a passion for technology, a curious mind and a maker spirit. You are looking for a hardcore tech environment with multiple opportunities for learning and growth. You'll be working alongside other experienced hardware and software engineers to design, test, and manufacture prototypes and mass-production versions of our product.

Soft Skills:

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with rapidly evolving responsibilities
• Ability to collaborate effectively and positively with other engineers (junior to senior levels)
• Ability to work independently and to implement best-in-class engineering practices without external guidance
• Interest in the American culture and in travelling to the US to better understand our customers
• Proficient English communication (oral and written): You are able to interface effectively with native English speakers

Technical skills:
Fields of expertise:

• Ability & Interest in Mechanical prototyping and manufacturing (3D printing, metal cutting, CNC, welding).
• At least DIY experience in some systems (cars, robotics, 3D printing, …)
• Strong understanding of common materials properties (metal, plastic, wood)
• Mechanical integration of electronics components experience (PCBs, sensors, cable harness)
• Vibration measurement, transmission & dampening is a plus
• Soft materials experience (PU foam, faux-leather) is a plus

Tools:

• Ability to use a large variety of shop tools (metal working, wood working, plastic assembly, sanding, painting, …)
• 3D CAD knowledge: We use Onshape, but any experience is valid (SolidWorks, Fusion, etc.).
• Experience with 2D drawing and tolerances for manufacturing
• Experience with simulation (FEA): Thermal and stress analysis
• Experience with BOM creation and parts numbers/versions

Prototyping/Machining:

• Rapid prototyping (FDM/SLA/CNC/welding) experience: Ability to set up, use and maintain your own shop
• Ability to put quick experiments together to validate concepts (test and learn)
• Hands-on problem-solving with machining and/or welding experience is a plus

Applications:

• Consumer electronics experience: participation in the design of at least one mass-produced B2C product is a plus
• Large metal device, machine or consumer goods design experience is a plus

Industrialization:

• Design for manufacturing (DFM) experience is a plus
• Experience collaborating with an OEM/ODM in Asia or South America is a plus

Package

• Salary: 40-50k€ based on qualifications and experience
• Equity: 0.1%-0.3% equity based on qualifications and experience

What You Will do

Support the internal prototyping and manufacturing company program:

• Interface directly with the Hardware Team to support them with manufacturing, integration, assembly, and testing tasks.
• Contribute to internal shop tasks (manufacturing, wiring, tooling management, shop maintenance, …)

Contribute to the company's R&D program:

• Directly interface with the tech team to collaborate on R&D phases
• Participate in prototype/product engineering requirements:
• For internal use within the tech team
• For external use by our suppliers and engineering services providers
• Collaborate with the tech team to arbitrate prototype/product technical choices
• Collaborate with our experienced team to bring our vision of connected fitness to life through the right prototype/product iterations

Mechanical prototype/product design:

• Participate in planning, conceptualizing, and creating mechanical designs for parts of our product
• Perform engineering calculations to support design work
• Create and review technical drawings, plans and specifications
• Support the tech team with prototyping, manufacturing and testing the next product version
• Design and build working prototypes for concept testing:
• In order to validate technical concepts that correctly implement our targeted experience
• In order to give working and product-representative platforms to the software team
• Collaborate with other teams and work with vendors and contractors
• Collaborate with the rest of the hardware team to create testing processes and to perform tests for what has been designed
