Job Role: Quantum–Computational Physics Engineer (Core Team)

If you are enthusiastic, ambitious, and motivated to build something truly unique from scratch, and to grow together with a deep-tech startup at its earliest stage, this role is for you. We are looking for individuals who want to take ownership, shape core technology, and be part of a long-term journey. We would be excited to hear from you.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Masters/Engineering/ PhD (or equivalent experience) in Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Quantum Computing, or a related field
  • Curious, pragmatic, and motivated to translate advanced physics into real tools
  • Interested in building something from the ground up
  • Most importantly, willingness to learn and curious.

Inclusivity Commitment

Statistics show that female candidates and underserved groups often hesitate to apply unless they meet all criteria. At Synthea, we value talent, passion, and curiosity above perfection. If this role inspires you, even if you do not meet every requirement, we strongly encourage you to apply.

Role Overview

Synthea is an early-stage deep-tech startup building
quantum-enhanced molecular physics modules
. Our mission is to create simulation technologies capable of transforming sectors such as health, biotech, aerospace, space, defense, manufacturing, food, chemical engineering, physics, climate, and the environment.

We are seeking a
Quantum–Computational Physics Engineer
to work directly with the founder on the development of an
initial technical demonstrator and MVP
, focused on:

  • Hybrid quantum–classical molecular modeling
  • Translating molecular-scale physics into
    engineering-grade parameters
  • Producing
    solver-ready outputs
compatible with industrial simulation workflows (e.g. COMSOL, ANSYS)

You will be one of the
first technical hires
, with the clear intention that
strong contributors will join Synthea's core technical team as the company scales
, playing a key role in long-term product development and technology strategy.

Key Responsibilities

1. Quantum Molecular Modeling (Core Technical Work)

2. Physics-to-Engineering Mapping

3. Software Prototyping & Integration

You will:

  • Develop a
    minimal, reproducible Python-based pipeline
  • Produce solver-ready outputs such as:
  • CSV tables
  • Interpolation datasets
  • Functional forms usable in multiphysics solvers
  • Maintain clean, documented, and modular code suitable for:
  • Industrial demonstrations
  • Technical due diligence
  • Incubator and investor review

4. MVP Demonstration & Validation

You will:

  • Build an
    end-to-end technical demonstrator
    :
  • Molecular model → parameter extraction → solver input
  • Assist in generating validation plots and technical demo outputs
  • Clearly document:
  • Model scope
  • Validity ranges
  • Known limitations
  • Contribute to technical material used for early partners and investors

Collaboration & Startup Responsibilities

You will work
directly with the founder
to:

  • Define the technical scope of the MVP
  • Identify defensible technical differentiators
  • Co-write
technical proposals for incubators, accelerators, and public funding
  • Help shape early IP strategy through design choices and documentation

This role requires comfort operating in an
unstructured, early-stage environment
.

Required Technical Skills

Essential

  • Strong background in
physics, physical chemistry, or applied mathematics
  • Experience with
    computational modeling or numerical simulation
  • Solid Python skills (NumPy, SciPy, scientific workflows)
  • Good understanding of:
  • Quantum mechanics (Hamiltonians, eigenvalue problems)
  • Reaction kinetics or thermodynamics

Strong Plus

  • Experience with quantum computing frameworks: Qiskit, PennyLane, OpenFermion, or similar
  • Familiarity with: Chemical reaction engineering, Process modeling or multiphysics simulation
  • Exposure to industrial simulation tools: COMSOL, ANSYS, Aspen, or equivalent

What Success Looks Like (Initial Phase)

You will help deliver:

  • A
    quantum-assisted molecular modeling pipeline
  • Engineering-ready parameter outputs usable in multiphysics solvers

Why Join Synthea at This Stage

  • Be among the
    first technical hires
    in a deep-tech startup
  • Work on a
    real industrial problem
    , not a theoretical demo
  • Direct influence on: Product architecture and Technical roadmap
  • Early IP
  • Opportunity to evolve into a
    lead technical role
    as the company grows
  • Active involvement in
    incubation and funding proposals
    alongside the founder
