Internship Manager: Ounissa Rahmani, Carbon Quality Engineer
Location: Incubateur CentraleSupélec, 3 rue Joliot-Curie, 91190 Gif-sur-Yvette
Type of Internship: 90% theoretical, 10% practical
Duration: 3-6 months, starting from March 2026
Remuneration : 1300€ - 1600€ depending on intern profile, 50% of the Transport Pass
Are you looking for an internship in the exciting fields of carbon-free energy and industry? Do you want to dedicate your time to a cause that has a significant impact on our future? Are you a person full of ideas, ready to share them within an attentive and dynamic team? Then you've come to the right place: welcome to Spark Cleantech
Spark Cleantech is a start-up that designs very low-emission carbon black and hydrogen production units. Our process uses a patented technology, unique in the world :
nanopulsed plasmalysis
(electric arcs controlled at the nanosecond). It makes it possible to break down methane into hydrogen, used for industrial heat with
zero CO2 emissions
, and solid
carbon
, an essential material in the rubber industry, replacing fossil-based carbon black.
After launching a first industrial demonstrator in 2024, we are developing real know-how in the production of carbon-free carbon black with a goal of deploying the technology on a large scale. We are looking for an intern to join our Carbon team and participate in the technical and commercial development.
Your mission
(if you accept it) is to participate in Spark's knowledge development on carbon black, its physicochemical properties and its applications, particularly in polymers. You will report to our Carbon Quality Engineer and you will participate in the definition of Spark's Carbon Characterization Laboratory.
Your
tasks
will be the following :
- List the physicochemical characteristics of carbon black, including surface conditions;
- Identify the associated characterization methods (ASTM standards, articles);
- Identify and source the equipments necessary for characterization (according to ASTM);
- Contact suppliers and write recommendations for equipment choices;
- Perform ad hoc analyses at Spark's existing laboratory (at CentraleSupélec) by applying ASTM standards and Spark procedures specific to carbon black;
- Study and document the links between the physicochemical properties of carbon black and the behaviour of rubber in the customer process (mixing, dispersion, percolation, vulcanization) and in the finished product (rheology);
- Participate in managing, updating and improving Spark's internal methodologies in the field of carbon characterization.
We are looking for
a student at the L3/M1/M2 level or a student engineer 2A/gap year/end of studies with:
- a researcher profile, especially in nanomaterials and/or polymers ;
- a real interest in scientific bibliographic analysis and critical reading of technical articles;
- proven scientific rigor, an eye for detail and an ability to analyze and synthesize;
- a B2-C1+ level in English;
- a real interest in technology based on plasma physics and its process-structure relationship with Carbon Black;
- an autonomous, proactive and organized work style;
- a sense of listening and teamwork;
- and above all, a strong motivation to contribute to the decarbonization of industry

We highly encourage you to describe explicitly any relevant projects you have completed in your resume.
Numerous studies show that most women do not apply unless they think they match 100% of the required skills. The list of skills presented in this offer is a guide. We will be happy to receive your application even if you think you do not meet all of the listed criteria. We seek to develop teams capable of innovating and working together:
if your profile satisfies even part of our description, do not hesitate to send us your application.
