Job Summary

The Pharmacy Intern YR1 supports the mission of the Pharmacy department by ensuring that the right patient receives the right medication in a safe and timely manner under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist. Develops a full understanding of the drug distribution system and demonstrates competency in carrying out all duties associated with delivering medications to the patient care areas. Uses related computer software, gains experience in the interpretation, verification, order entry, compounding, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical supplies. The Pharmacy Intern may also be involved in the dissemination of drug information

Qualifications

Essential Functions (Key Roles & Responsibilities)

  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds.

  • Work collaboratively with the treatment team to maximize individual patient outcomes.

  • Counsel patients on prescription and over-the-counter medications and devices. Monitor medication therapies through performing profile reviews, interpreting laboratory values, and ensuring drug regimens are consistent with medication use guidelines and protocols.

  • Assist Pharmacist in gathering information to advise nurses, doctors, and patients on the proper and safe use of medications.

  • Fills and delivers medications requested by nursing units and as needed for Pyxis automated dispensing machine after complete check by a registered pharmacist. Performs good customer service skills via telephone or in person at Pharmacy window and while rounding on patient care areas.

  • Adheres to HIPPA regulations regarding confidentiality and patient privacy. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy/Pharmaceutical Studies required

Licenses/Certifications

Pharmacy Intern [State License] - required

Pharmacy Technician Certification [CPhT] - Pharmacy Certification Board (PTCB) required

0-1 years of Pharmacy experience
