Title: Maintenance Technician – 1st Shift

Department: Maintenance

Location: Abbeville, South Carolina – Aerofoam USA

Reports to: Maintenance Manager

Position Summary:

The Maintenance Technician – 1st Shift is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production equipment and facility systems to ensure reliable and safe operations. This role supports the plant's daily operations by performing preventive maintenance, responding to equipment failures, and assisting with installations or upgrades. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and experienced in manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic troubleshooting and repairs on production equipment (mixers, mills, extruders, ovens, packaging lines, etc.)
  • Execute preventive maintenance (PM) tasks as scheduled to minimize downtime
  • Assist with equipment installations, modifications, and continuous improvement projects
  • Diagnose equipment failures and implement corrective actions quickly and safely
  • Maintain accurate documentation of repairs, maintenance logs, and work orders
  • Communicate effectively with production, maintenance leadership, and shift supervisors
  • Follow safety standards and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures at all times
  • Support spare parts inventory organization and requisitions
  • Work collaboratively with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs or calibrations
  • Participate in training and development to enhance technical skills and knowledge
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience preferred in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of electrical and pneumatic systems
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals
  • Experience using basic hand and power tools, multimeters, and maintenance equipment
  • Comfortable troubleshooting production machinery under time-sensitive conditions
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and team-focused
  • Basic computer skills for entering work orders and PMs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in rubber, plastics, or extrusion manufacturing
  • Technical diploma or trade school certification in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or related field
  • Familiarity with SAP (PM module) or other CMMS systems
  • Forklift license or willingness to become certified
  • Experience with HVAC, air compressors, or utilities is a plus

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical associate degree or higher in manufacturing, engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Strong background in rubber, plastics, extrusion, or similar process-based industries preferred such as elastomeric insulation or similar products.
  • Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma training/certification.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.

Work Conditions & Physical Responsibilities

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing environment and includes walking, standing, stooping, bending, reaching, climbing and lifting up to 50 lbs. requiring flexibility to work as needed.
