Science Officer

The International Science Council (ISC) is looking for a motivated, dynamic, full-time Science Officer to contribute to its ambitious strategy.

This opportunity arises due to a new project undertaken by the ISC from 2026, focused on principles and values for international collaboration in research and innovation. The Science Officer will work primarily on this project, but may contribute work across the full scope of the ISC's remit.   : Paris area, France. The incumbent should be prepared to conduct world-wide travel.

• Salary
  : Dependent on the experience and qualifications of the candidate. If the fixed-term contract (CDD) is not converted into an indefinite contract (CDI), the employee is entitled to an indemnity equal to 10% of the total gross salary earned during the contract.
• Annual leave:
   49 days off per year, consisting of 25 days of statutory paid leave and 24 additional days under the 
  Réduction du Temps de Travail (RTT)
   system (compensatory time off for working a 39-hour workweek).

About the role

As a Science Officer, you will have the following general responsibilities:

1. Managing time‐bound projects and programmes; leading on their development; implementation, coordination, communication, reporting and review.
2. Providing topic and methodology expertise and advice internally and externally; representing the ISC at meetings, conferences and other events as required.
3. Contributing to projects led by other ISC staff and members.
4. Liaising internally to ensure project budgetary compliance, communication and policy interfacing, where appropriate, and dissemination of results.
5. Coordinating and connecting individuals across a diverse milieu of academic, scientific, science-policy and intergovernmental organizations.

Qualifications, knowledge & experience

Required:

• A post-graduate degree in a natural or social science or humanities, with at least three years of work experience in science, science-policy or science coordination;
• Demonstrated mixed-methods research capability, with the ability to design, implement and synthesize quantitative, qualitative and desk-based analyses;
• Experience preparing literature reviews, evidence syntheses or strategic assessments;
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate multi-stakeholder projects, expert groups or advisory committees;
• Experience working with globally distributed and/or culturally diverse stakeholders;
• Experience in monitoring, evaluation and learning frameworks;
• A full command of written and spoken English.

Desirable:

• Experience with major national or international scientific bodies or science funders, particularly EU tender calls;
• Experience in the design and administration of, and reporting on, science programmes or projects;
• Experience in supporting technical and/or scientific committees;
• Experience with fundraising, building and managing relationships with donors;
• Working knowledge of French and knowledge of other languages will be considered an advantage.
