Our Mission
Since 2016, Doctrine has been committed to a major democratic challenge: making the law more accessible. We are the first AI-powered legal platform that helps lawyers and legal professionals free themselves from repetitive, time-consuming tasks so they can focus on what truly matters—at every stage of their work: whether it's understanding a case, conducting legal research, or drafting documents.
Today, Doctrine welcomes over 1 million visits every month, with dozens of new legal professionals joining us every single day. Our ambition goes beyond borders: we aim to become the European leader in legal AI. After France, we have already launched Doctrine in Italy, and we are currently expanding into Germany with a strong conviction: you must think globally while executing locally. That's why we work closely with our clients, striving to understand the unique subtleties of each legal system. And this is just the beginning
Our Values
Challenge the status quo. We embrace bold ideas and smart risk-taking.
Liberty and responsibility. We promote autonomy, individual impact, and ownership.
Knowledge is power. Information lies at the heart of Doctrine's mission, and we always want to learn more.
Release early, release often, and listen to your customers. We believe in the power of iteration and in constantly listening to our market, our clients, and their challenges.
Contexte
Doctrine is the leading legal artificial intelligence platform, using AI to facilitate the work of law professionals. Founded in 2016, Doctrine became known with its first product, which centralises, contextualises and makes legal information in France more accessible.
Over the past two years, Doctrine has expanded into new markets, including Germany and Italy, and created new products for private documents. Above all, we are integrating generative artificial intelligence into our products on a large scale. This involves close collaboration between the legal team and the product and engineering teams.
In this context, we are recruiting a Legal Counsel Germany (lawyer for Germany). Your role will be to gain an in-depth understanding of our products for Germany and to provide industry insights to the tech and product teams to help them in their choices. You will work directly with our technical teams to enable us to build the best features based on generative artificial intelligence. You will liaise between the product teams and the legal department to ensure the legal compliance of our products. As the first legal counsel for Germany, you will also contribute directly to the legal strategy for our development in this country, in particular by contributing to relations with institutions and managing pre-litigation matters.
Your missions :- Daily advice to product and engineering teams on the application of generative artificial intelligence to German law: legal data annotation, assistance with prompt writing, analysis of user feedback, qualitative comparison of results, etc.
- Training of the tech and legal teams on German law and sharing your experience and knowledge of the local legal professions.
- Assisting in market assessment, competitive intelligence, and comparison of tools available on the market.
- Anticipation and assessment of legal risks related to each product feature, particularly GDPR, intellectual property, and e-commerce law.
- Various legal research, in all areas likely to impact us (digital law, open data law, corporate law, labor law, etc.), and updating of our General Terms and Conditions.
- Management of pre-litigation requests in conjunction with the DPO team.
- Liaison and contact with local institutions to support the development of our product: presence at events, partnerships with bar associations and institutions, liaison with the local legaltech ecosystem.
- You have previous experience, even if only an internship, working in a law firm and a legal department.
- You have solid legal knowledge and the ability to quickly learn new subjects.
- You have a synthetic mind (ability to summarize), and you enjoy and are able to discuss complex legal subjects with non-experts.
- You know how to demonstrate a critical mind and creativity in new situations – you are not satisfied with the answer "we've always done it that way." You are relentlessly resourceful.
- You are very rigorous and appreciate knowing that you have tested all possible options to choose the best one.
- For education, a degree in German law is imperative.
- For languages, you must, of course, speak German perfectly, and be at least C1 in English or French (both is even better).
- Paris, in our 18th arrondissement offices, as it is important to be close to the teams.
- However, it is likely that you will need to regularly travel to Germany (costs obviously covered by Doctrine).
What Awaits You if You Join Doctrine
- Contribute to an ambitious project with a real, positive impact on society: making the law more accessible and open.
- Benefit from tailored onboarding in the legal ecosystem to help you quickly navigate this stimulating environment.
- Join an adventure where you'll constantly learn and share your knowledge with colleagues (internal/external talks, meetups, Tech & Sales Monthly, Medium blog, etc.).
- Work in a dynamic, ever-evolving team: plenty of room to innovate, lead projects independently, or collaborate in teams.
