Who we are

UNVEIL is a deep tech start-up, spin-off from the Charles Fabry laboratory (Institut d'Optique Graduate School, Université Paris-Saclay), developing a new optical technology for characterizing nanoparticles for companies developing new biodrugs.

These pharmaceutical companies develop innovative therapies, such as gene therapies (i.e., therapies that aim to genetically modify the patient's cells to achieve a therapeutic effect) or new classes of vaccines (e.g., RNA messenger vaccines). These drugs are unique in that they are composed of nanoparticles (such as modified viruses, lipid nanoparticles, extracellular vesicles, etc.).

UNVEIL instrument facilitates and accelerates the development of these therapies in the early stages of R&D and production by allowing fast (5 min / measurement), cheap (using 50,000 times less sample than legacy technologies) and easy nanoparticle characterization (concentration, size, and mass sample distribution).

The technology is composed of both hardware (a high performance interferometric microscope) and software (image and signal processing).

UNVEIL has developed a Minimum Viable Product based on this technology and plans to transition into an industrialized product during 2026.

What the job would be

Your main mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to develop a commercial grade software for the industrialized version of the product, to pilot the version upgrades, and to ensure continuous performance improvement. It will also involve participating to improve the image processing, signal processing, and many other algorithms.

Goals and responsibilities

• Develop an industrialized version of our software by choosing the right architecture and technologies to make it efficient, stable as well as easy to maintain. Our software includes: Image and signal processing, optimisation, statistics; a graphical user interface; hardware management (camera, laser, microcontroller etc)
• Accelerate specific functionalities of the software (e.g., image/signal processing, optimization and various others algorithms)
• Improve the user experience by redesigning the application UI
• Develop new image and signal processing algorithms that make our full pipeline more reliable and effi cient, in order to detect smaller nanoparticles, in more complex environments.

Who we are looking for

Required

• Engineering or Master degree
• Have at least 3 years of experience working as part of a team developing complex IT systems involving scientifi c computing.
• Be motivated to join a dynamic, growing start-up and be a good fi t for the team

Valued and optional skills

• Experience with a graphical user interface application development framework (e.g., Qt)
• Skills in Python/C++/Cuda C++
• Experience in image processing (denoising, detection, etc.)
• Skills in mathematics/statistical analysis
• Knowledge of physics, specifi cally wave optics/Fourier optics
• Experience with Experiment control and management of large data flows
• Fluent in English

Little extras

• Interest in biology, particularly in the fi eld of cell/gene therapies
• Skills in electronics (in terms of designing or understanding relatively simple electronic circuits)
• Skills in a microcontroller programming language
