neutrality by 2050.
Join ArcelorMittal Global R&D and envision the steel of tomorrow
ArcelorMittal Global R&D is spanning the Globe with 12 sites dedicated to research (operating in process, products, application and steel solutions) within 7 countries and more than 20 nationalities. Because quality outcomes and innovation spirit depend on quality people, we seek to attract and nurture the best people to deliver superior and innovative solutions to our customers.
Would you want to integrate a multicultural company with challenging missions and passionate people, ArcelorMittal is for YOU We are looking for Interns, VIE, apprentices willing to work in a multicultural environment in different domains.
The purpose of the mission:
ArcelorMittal is committed to minimize the environmental impact of its production processes while developing new sustainable routes to produce low carbon iron and steel. To achieve the carbon neutrality goals, ArcelorMittal is exploring different alternatives to replace the fossil fuels currently by renewable and sustainable energy sources.
The replacement of fossil coals by sustainable carbon sources as bio-coal requires to optimize the process parameters of the existing production plants, and in some cases, to revamp the process with newly designed process units.
During this internship your objective will be to develop and simulate a biorefinery plant for bio-oil upgrading using a commercial process design software. You will establish the energy and mass balances of the purification process, and you will optimize the process parameters of these units under different conditions (variable feedstock composition, use of different solvents). The goal is to achieve the best yield and purity of separated products and also more significant net income of installation.
Your mission: responsibilities and activities
The goal of the trainee is to propose the best process flowsheet for recovery of key compounds from aqueous fraction of bio-oil as well as to simulate and to optimize its efficiency to maximize the yield of recovery and to decrease the production cost.
The intern tasks will be:
· Perform bibliographic research on bio-oil refining
· Propose and build the flowsheet process for recovery of main compounds of interest
· Simulate the process and compare its performances in a function of the thermodynamic model, type of solvent, and feedstock
· Perform techno-economic analysis of proposed installation
The environment:
The trainee will join the Sustainable Operation Team (based in Forbach, Moselle) which is the part of the ArcelorMittal Global R&D. One of the Sustainable Operation Team's goals is to develop the production process of fossil-free fuels and introduce innovative solutions at industrial scale. The trainee will be exposed to the world of industrial research along with basics of project management, communication of results and team working.
Required profile and skills:
· Last year student in Process or Chemical Engineering (Bac +5).
· Experience using process simulation and modeling software (eg. AVEVA process simulation, ASPEN Plus, Aspen HYSIS, PRO/II, ProSimPlus…).
· Good knowledge on thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, mass and energy balances.
· Good knowledge of the unit operations used in chemical and petrochemical plants.
· Good background in organic chemistry.
· Interest on data analysis and mathematical optimization tools.
· Excellent communication and listening skills.
· Dynamic, persistent, working autonomously and taking initiative.
· Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, team player.
· Highly involved and motivated.
· Working languages : English, French
Starting date: beginning 2026
