Backup / Storage Administrator

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Backup and Storage Administrator to architect, implement, and manage enterprise-grade storage and backup solutions within a high-performance AI infrastructure. This role is critical to ensuring data availability, integrity, and security across GPU-accelerated workloads, leveraging industry-standard storage systems. You will support scalable AI/ML pipelines by maintaining robust backup, recovery, replication, and archival strategies across RoCE and InfiniBand-enabled environments.

Key Responsibilities

Backup Management

• Manage, configure, and maintain enterprise backup solutions (e.g., Veritas NetBackup, Commvault, Veeam, Rubrik, etc.).
• Schedule and monitor backup jobs, ensuring successful completion and addressing failures promptly.
• Perform regular backup testing and recovery drills to validate disaster recovery (DR) readiness.
• Implement retention policies and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.

Storage Management

• Administer SAN, NAS, and object storage systems optimized for AI training, inference, and RAG workloads.
• Monitor storage performance, capacity, and health to prevent downtime or degradation.
• Plan and execute storage provisioning, upgrades, and replication across GPU clusters and ingestion pipelines.
• Ensure optimal tiering and allocation for AI workloads, including LLM fine-tuning, Data Lakehouse ingestion, and federated querying.

Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity

• Develop, maintain, and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans for data storage and backup.
• Support DR failover/failback exercises and documentation.

Monitoring & Reporting

• Maintain dashboards, alerts, and reports for backup and storage performance, capacity, and incidents using native tools as well as Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK stack.
• Analyse trends and recommend improvements in infrastructure and processes.

Security & Compliance

• Ensure backup and storage systems adhere to security best practices and compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, ISO
• Implement encryption, access control, and audit logging across AI data pipelines and storage layers.

Collaboration & Support

• Work closely with server, network, and application teams to ensure seamless data protection.
• Work closely with platform, DevOps, and AI teams to ensure seamless data protection across OpenShift and Kubernetes environments.
• Provide Level 2/3 support for incidents related to backup and storage infrastructure.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3–5 years of experience in enterprise backup and storage administration.
• Hands-on experience with at least one enterprise backup solution and with industry-standard storage platforms.
• Strong knowledge of SAN, NAS, object storage, deduplication, and replication technologies.
• Familiarity with disaster recovery planning and execution.
• Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) for automation.
• Understanding of virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud storage (AWS S3, Azure Blob, Google Cloud Storage).

Preferred Qualifications

Certifications such as:

• Veritas NetBackup Certified Specialist (VCS)
• Commvault Certified Professional
• Industry-specific storage certifications
• AWS/Azure storage certifications

Experience:

• Hybrid cloud backup and disaster recovery solutions.
• AI Factory architectures and Data Lakehouse platforms.
