About The Role
As

Director Systems Engineering
, you will lead the development of onboard systems and architectures for Liebherr's range of Mining Hydraulic Excavators. This includes hydraulics, electronics, electrical systems, power drives, and machine controls. You will act as a key driver of innovation, ensuring product excellence, and positioning Colmar as the competence centre for systems engineering within the global Liebherr Mining Division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop, and motivate a team of c.50 Engineers (with 6 Direct Reports) covering Controls, Electric Drive, Electrical Integration, Product Follow-Up, Testing, Hydraulics & Fluids.
  • Promote technical expertise and career development within the team, ensuring succession planning and knowledge capitalization.
  • Own product accountability: ensure all onboard systems meet company standards of performance, reliability, safety, and quality.
  • Oversee development of hydraulic, electronic, and electric architectures, as well as control systems.
  • Manage obsolescence of hardware electronics and develop substitution strategies.
  • Drive innovation and technical watch in hydraulics, electronics, and controls to align with Liebherr's strategic roadmap (autonomy, teleoperation, connectivity).
  • Secure on-time, on-quality delivery of product developments in line with project schedules and cost targets.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration across Engineering, Production, and Digital Product divisions.
  • Represent Systems Engineering at management level, engaging with the LEC and LME boards.

Profile:

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 15+ years of progressive engineering leadership, ideally in mining, construction equipment, or heavy machinery.
  • Proven expertise in hydraulic, electronic, and electrical systems integration.
  • Strong project management, cost awareness, and product lifecycle experience.
  • Fluent in French, English, and German.
  • Inspirational leader with the ability to drive expert teams and influence across a matrix organization.
