Internship Overview

As an intern, you will join the InfinyTech3D R&D team to contribute to the evolution of our surgical platform, SurgiViz4D. You will work in close collaboration with an alternant who is working on the complete pipeline from medical-image segmentation to simulation integration. Your role will focus on improving organ meshes produced from the segmentation of the 3D medical images. Starting from raw, voxel-based volumetric meshes (figure 1), you will transform them into clean, smooth, simulation-ready anatomical surfaces (figure 2). These meshes are essential for building accurate and stable Digital Twins used in surgical training and planning. You will be responsible for designing, evaluating, and implementing mesh processing algorithms, as well as developing internal tools to automate and streamline these operations.

Your Mission

  • Understand, define and formalize the quality metrics required for a mesh to be suitable for simulation
  • Reconstruct smooth organ surfaces from raw volumetric meshes using external library such as VTK or CGAL, software tools like Blender or MeshLab, and internal algorithms.
  • Improve mesh quality: remove self-intersections, ensure manifold surfaces, fix degenerate elements
  • Create multiple mesh resolutions (coarse/refined) and produce volumetric versions.
  • Develop internal tools to automate all those mesh processing

Your Profile

  • Final-year engineering or Master's student (M2) in computer science, geometry processing, biomedical engineering, or related fields
  • Strong interest in 3D models, geometry, or mesh algorithms
  • Familiarity with geometry-processing tools (VTK, CGAL, ITK, Blender, MeshLab)
  • Programming experience in Python and/or C++
  • Skills in mesh texturing would be highly appreciated
  • Knowledge of medical imaging or simulation is a plus

Location: Lyon

Duration: 6 Months (Start Q1-2026)

Compensation: 800€/month
