Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Center Engineer to support on-site data center operations. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in data center hardware support, racking and stacking, cabling, break/fix activities, and infrastructure operations, with exposure to compute, network, and storage systems.

This is a fully on-site role requiring proven experience in managing physical data center environments and supporting mission-critical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily data center operational activities, including hardware health checks, physical inspections, and environmental monitoring.
  • Install, rack, stack, cable, and configure server, storage, and network equipment in accordance with industry standards and site policies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware-related incidents, including server failures, disk replacements, power issues, and network connectivity problems.
  • Execute break/fix activities as per defined procedures, including component replacement, firmware upgrades, and diagnostics.
  • Provide hands-on support during critical incidents and planned maintenance windows in coordination with remote support teams.
  • Support network patching activities, including copper and fiber cabling, labeling, and patch panel updates.
  • Maintain accurate asset inventory, including asset tagging, rack diagrams, and documentation updates.
  • Ensure compliance with data center security standards, access controls, and operational SOPs.
  • Perform server provisioning and decommissioning activities, including secure wiping, packing, and preparation for disposal or shipment.
  • Maintain structured and clean cable management aligned with best practices.
  • Escort vendors and third-party engineers, ensuring adherence to site policies and safety requirements.
  • Participate in scheduled power, cooling, and infrastructure maintenance activities in coordination with facilities teams.
  • Coordinate with hardware vendors for RMA processing, diagnostics, and replacement activities.
  • Maintain operational logs, update tickets, and provide detailed incident and task reports using ITSM tools such as ServiceNow, Remedy, or Jira.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 4–6 years of hands-on experience in data center operations and on-site hardware support.
  • Strong knowledge of x86 server hardware platforms (e.g., Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Cisco UCS).
  • Experience supporting storage systems, SAN components, and Fibre Channel connectivity.
  • Good understanding of network hardware (switches, routers, firewalls) and structured cabling standards.
  • Familiarity with data center power and cooling concepts, rack layouts, and infrastructure design principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret rack diagrams, network schematics, and data center floor plans.
  • Experience using KVMs, remote console tools, and server management interfaces (iLO, iDRAC, BIOS).
  • Strong documentation skills and experience working with ITSM and ticketing platforms.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under operational pressure.
