Decarbonisation & Climate Risk – Research & Outreach Intern (6 months)

London or Nice

Role

Join ClimaTech, an innovative research programme within EDHEC Climate Institute, focused on developing applied research and tools to better understand and reduce climate-related risks to infrastructure assets and companies.

As an intern, you will support the team in both:

  • building practical methodologies and knowledge resources on decarbonisation technologies and physical climate risk resilience solutions across key sectors (infrastructure, real estate, manufacturing etc.)
  • drafting clear, accurate content and supporting outreach activities to external stakeholders (investors, companies, public institutions).

This internship is designed for candidates who want hands-on experience at the intersection of climate science/engineering, technology, finance and communications, contributing to real-world tools, publications, outreach and research used by financial institutions and industry stakeholders.

You will report directly to Catherine Tubb (London).

Responsibilities (intern level)

You will contribute to projects under the supervision of senior researchers and project leads, including:

  • Support the development of a structured knowledge base of decarbonisation and resilience interventions (Scope 1, 2, and 3), including technology descriptions, maturity, applicability, and constraints by sector.
  • Collect, clean and consolidate data on costs, performance, efficiency, and deployment conditions of climate solutions (e.g., electrification, energy efficiency, low-carbon materials, circularity, logistics optimisation, adaptation measures).
  • Contribute to sector and asset case studies, helping assess realistic pathways to reduce emissions and exposure to climate hazards (flood, heat, storm, wildfire).

Content & outreach support:

  • Draft and refine content (slides, short notes, one pagers) that translates technical climate and decarbonisation analysis into clear messages for key stakeholders.
  • Support outreach and client engagement efforts, by helping draft client-facing presentations and synthesising key messages for external audiences.
  • Help ensure consistency of tone and messaging across presentations, factsheets and other materials, while preserving scientific rigour.

Cross-cutting:

  • Contribute ideas and content for dedicated publications, including short thematic notes, working papers, or methodology briefs (depending on interest and project needs).
  • Monitor climate policy and market developments relevant to transition and resilience (EU / UK /FR focus), and summarise key insights for the team, and summarise key insights for the team and for external content where relevant.

Desired Profile

  • Currently enrolled in a Master's degree (or final year of engineering school) in engineering, environmental sciences, energy systems, supply chain, sustainability, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Strong interest in decarbonisation, climate adaptation, and real-world transition solutions (built environment, infrastructure, industrial systems).
  • Comfortable working with quantitative information, data sources, and technical documentation, and willing to go back to the underlying data/methods to check the accuracy of messages.
  • Enjoys writing and communicating: able to synthesise complex information clearly, and motivated to translate technical content into accessible narratives (presentations, briefs, blog style pieces, newsletters, etc.).
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team, motivated to support outreach and engagement with external partners.

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with techno-economic analysis, carbon accounting, climate-related disclosures, or sustainable finance frameworks.
  • Any prior experience in communications, outreach or marketing (student associations, editorial roles, events, social media for a project or organisation) is a strong asset
  • Tools: Excel required; Python/R and/or data visualisation tools are a plus.

Location

- London (UK) or Nice (France) - Hybrid working possible depending on team needs and candidate availability.

Internship conditions

  • Duration: 6 months (flexible start date)
  • Internship agreement required (school convention)
