About BiomemoryBiomemory is a worldwide pioneer in theDNA Data Storage market.We are a well-funded start-up buildingIT rackable equipment for Data Centers,using synthetic DNA as the storage media.While this technology is still at its infancy, these DNA Data StorageServerstarget the storage of massive amounts of data (Exabytes) with a very long retention life-time (> 100 years) within an attractive capex and opex budget.Headquartered in Paris, Biomemory aims at serving the fast-growing international "cold storage" market.Job DescriptionAt Biomemory, we are seeking aSenior Mechanics & Mechatronics Engineerto join our System engineering team in tackling a variety of mechanical (mechanics, mechatronics and automation) challenges related to our DNA-based data storage systems.You'll help shape and implement Biomemory's roadmap bybuilding and scaling automated modulesthat handle synthetic DNA — from purification to amplification. Each generation will bring morerobotics, integration, and automation, combining fluidics, electronics, software, and mechanics into reliable systems.You'll be thehands-on technical leadof the modules you are in charge of delivering. Maintaining compliance with the global system architecture, you will lead the module development, from specification to qualification. You will be guiding the internal and external resources assigned to the project, while working closely with the various teams of Biomemory.You will be theMechanics, Mechatronics and Automation referral within Biomemoryand will share your expertise as the team will be growing and the projects multiplying. You will be contributing to the continuous automation effort within the System Engineering team.As you demonstrate your ability to integrate into our organization and bring value to Biomemory, there will be many opportunities of evolution across the multi-domain R&D activities.Key Responsibilities:Take ownership of the mechanic and mechatronic-centric projects for Biomemory.Define detailed module(s) specifications and architecture , compliant with the global system requirements, architecture and interfaces. Identify the required resources for the execution of the project.Module Development & Optimization: lead and contribute to the design, implementation, optimization, testing, validation and qualification of the modules, working with other biotech, hardware and software experts to understand steps, edge cases, and sensitivities.System Integration: Collaborate with other teams to ensure compatibility and seamless integration of the modules into the larger platform.Testing & Reporting: Architect test benches, log and analyze data, and document results to ensure traceability and continuous improvement.Workflow Automation: Define strategies and supervise the implementation phases to automate workflows across the System Engineering activities, and more generally within Biomemory.About YouDesired candidate characteristicsEducation : Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or equivalent.Experience:7+ years of experience architecting, designing, building and operating mechanic & mechatronic systems, ideally in biotech, medtech, diagnostics, lab automation, or chemical engineering.Technically led mechanics, mechatronics or robotics projects and achieved system integration and validation of the developed subsystems for commercially-deployed solutions.Hands-on experience working with embedded systems, microcontrollers, robotics controllers, and real-time control systems.Proven track record of translating manual lab or industrial protocols into robust automated workflows.Documentation and creation test plans for multi-physics systems (hardware+software+fluidics) with a focus on performance, quality, and reliability.Skills:Excellent creativity and problem-solving skills with a focus on identifying and implementing effective solutions. You thrive in solving complex problems and love the challenge of ensuring system functions as intended, identifying issues before they become bottlenecks or failures.Ability to identify and leverage both proven off-the-shelf solutions and innovative approaches — from process simplification to breakthrough technologies — to accelerate development and reduce costs.Comfortable working with multiple teams to understand requirements, build test plans, and execute the projects in an evolutive environment. You're comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment, working across various teams to ensure all elements of the system are validated and performing well together.Clear communication: Proficiency in documenting and communicating results clearly and comprehensively, ensuring transparency in the testing process. You are fluent in English, and ideally in French too.Work EnvironmentThe position is onsite, based at our office located at 5 Impasse Reille in Paris (14 th arrondissement).The workspace combines modern classic offices with advanced laboratory rooms, designed to foster collaboration between computer scientists and biologists. This setup supports our mission to tackle the challenges of DNA synthesis and writing, encouraging interdisciplinary teamwork and innovation.In 2026, our offices will relocate to a new headquarters in the center of Paris (near Notre-Dame Cathedral).
