Led by Rodolphe Saadé, the CMA CGM Group, a global leader in shipping and logistics, serves more than 420 ports around the world on five continents. With its subsidiary CEVA Logistics, a world leader in logistics, and its air freight division CMA CGM AIR CARGO, the CMA CGM Group is continually innovating to offer its customers a complete and increasingly efficient range of new shipping, land, air and logistics solutions.
Committed to the energy transition in shipping, and a pioneer in the use of alternative fuels, the CMA CGM Group has set a target to become Net Zero Carbon by 2050.
Through the CMA CGM Foundation, the Group acts in humanitarian crises that require an emergency response by mobilizing the Group's shipping and logistics expertise to bring humanitarian supplies around the world.
Present in 160 countries through its network of more than 400 offices and 750 warehouses, the Group employs more than 155,000 people worldwide, including 4,000 in Marseilles where its head office is located.
CMA CGM Group has decided to structure and strengthen its R&D approach by creating a Center of Excellence dedicated to Innovation and Research. The center will increase the company's capacity for technological and scientific innovation necessary to meet its strategic objectives (decarbonization, digitalization…), while generating profitability and ensure a high visibility on the Group's commitment to industry's energy transition. It will rely on strategic industrial and academic partners experts in the maritime industry (laboratories, companies, startups, shipyards, etc.).
YOUR ROLE
As part of our core services, CMA CGM Group operates on more than 200 shipping lines on which our fleet of 502 vessels navigates.
Our dedicated teams ensure the best services and maintain schedules.
This commitment for our customers and the variety of services we offer have made CMA CGM Group a world leader in transport and logistics.
The Ship Manager position is important in our value chain as you are in relations with both our teams at sea and ashore. Within a shipping line, your role is to ensure the operational monitoring of vessels voyages. You make sure that vessels voyages and port operations go smoothly by establishing the loading plans in compliance with safety rules and through the enforcement of the Line business policy.
This is to start on a permanent contract.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?
From our head office in Marseille, you ensure, in close cooperation with Captains/Second Officers, the good conditions of vessels seaworthiness throughout the voyage by:
- Checking that all material equipment improving the productivity and port turnaround times is available, in connection with Terminals and Agents, with the different parties of the Line and all operational support teams (Dangerous Cargo Office, Oil Management…).
- Monitoring and managing special loadings: dangerous cargo, Reefers, Out of Gauge (OOG, Breakbulk) according to the international regulations (IMDG code, ISM…), the Group and Line's instructions.
- Evaluating the feasibility of Changes of Destination (COD) of some cargos according to their position on board, following the request of sales teams, Logistics Department and partners.
- Validating Port Call Reports (PCR) sent by Agents.
- Participating in the development of statistics and ensure the monitoring of bunkers consumption.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- Postgraduate degree or equivalent experience (+ 5 years) from a National Maritime School, ideally Merchant Navy deck officer, with an on-board experience.
- Fluent in English (both speaking and writing).
- Good command of IT tools.
- Good knowledge of specific planning and/or vessels stability calculation software programmes.
- Reactive, rigorous and organised, you carry out and anticipate operational tasks, and manage priorities and emergencies
- Hygiene, safety and environment rules as well as regulatory framework knowledge
- Flexible approach of working hours (you may be expected to work on evenings/weekends).
