Fitter / Machinist Apprentice

Position Overview

Under the guidance of a master, a Fitter Apprentice will learn and master the fundamentals of machinist skills, including measuring tool use, marking, cutting, grinding, drilling, tapping, assembly, and equipment maintenance. This position is suitable for individuals who are diligent, meticulous, and willing to learn machining skills, laying the foundation for future advancement into a skilled tradesman.

Main Responsibilities

Assist the master with marking, filing, sawing, drilling, tapping, fitting, and assembly of parts.

Learn to use common measuring tools (such as calipers, micrometers, angle squares, vernier rulers, etc.).

Assist with equipment installation, commissioning, maintenance, and simple repairs.

Perform dimensional inspections and quality assurance according to process requirements.

Maintain a clean and safe work surface, tools, and work area.

Promptly report any abnormalities to the master or team leader.

Requirements

Education: Technical secondary school/high school/high school or above; Mechanical major preferred; Non-majors can provide mentoring.

Physical Requirements: Strong hands-on skills and adaptability to a workshop environment.

Experience: No experience is available for training; prior machining or factory experience is a plus.

Skill Learning Objectives (3-12 Month Development Path)

Stage Learning Content Ability Objectives

1-3 Months: Learn to use tools and gauges, marking, and filing. Master basic benchwork operations.

4-6 Months: Drilling, tapping, assembly, and simple grinding. Ability to independently complete small processes.

7-12 Months: Fine assembly, machine repair assistance, equipment disassembly and maintenance. Progression to Junior Benchworker

Promotion Path

Apprentice Benchworker → Junior Benchworker → Journeyman Benchworker → Senior Benchworker/Technician → Line Leader / Equipment Supervisor / Workshop Team Leader
