Title: "The goal is to design a hardware solution that allows: Detecting and monitoring voltage spikes on the 54 V input power supply of computing blades.

Your missions:

  • Defining a configurable trigger threshold (hardware or software).
  • Integrating an alarm system that reports when an event has occurred (GPIO, I²C, UART, CAN, or others).
  • Timestamping detected spikes, ideally with microsecond precision or better.
  • Enabling a protection circuit to be activated if excessively high voltage peaks are detected.
  • Evaluating the minimal impact on the 54 V line (very low load, very low loss).
  • Proposing a testable prototype on our HPC platform.
  • Work Required Needs and Constraints Analysis Architecture Choice Cost analysis, ease of integration, precision, responsiveness.
  • HW Module Design Schematic entry Component selection (sense resistors, isolators, ADCs, comparators, microcontroller/FPGA, etc.).
  • PCB design (optional, depending on internship duration).
  • Alarm System Implementation Interface definition (GPIO, I²C, UART, etc.). Event register implementation.
  • Possibility of a circular buffer to retain multiple events.
  • Firmware Development Threshold management.
  • Timestamping (RTC or external synchronization).
  • Communication to the blade or to a supervision system.
  • Testing and Validation Stress tests on a 54 V power supply bench.
  • Event capture and comparison with an oscilloscope (reference).
  • Reliability and repeatability analysis.
  • Documentation Design dossier.
  • Integration guide for HPC teams.
  • Final report detailing the chosen solution and any potential limitations.

Required Skills:

Knowledge in analog and digital electronics.

Understanding of power converters.

Use of tools: oscilloscope, analyzers, Cadence CAD environment. Knowledge of microcontrollers, FPGA, I²C/SPI/UART protocols.

Rigorousness and autonomy. Interest in motherboards and complex design
