Senior Engineer, Telco Network

Job Summary: ​​

The incumbent in this position is responsible for technical activities in a subset of Sierra Wireless global IoT Telco Network. They will be the voice, signaling and messaging expert for all activities related to Engineering, Operations and Level 3 Support.​

Engineering and Solution design: functional design with the Product team, technical solution design at high and low levels with all contributing domains, arbitration between alternatives, identification of transformation steps and migration strategy, testing and deployment strategy definition and execution, go live activities, documentation, …
Examples of projects include: moving our HLR to the cloud ; platform renewals ; security enhancements ; new services introduction ; signaling probes enhancements, 5G roaming enablement, QoS and cost control initiatives, … Vendor management: RFQ management and vendor selection, benchmarks, roadmap analysis, contractualization, improvement plans definition and execution. We partner with the usual major mobile core vendors and some smaller players. Project management: managing scope, planning, costs, risks, coordination between stakeholders and communication inside / outside of the project team. Operations management: telco node deployment and upgrades in private cloud as well as in public cloud, technical & functional configuration, capacity planning, performance tuning, robustness enhancement, security hardening, disaster recovery plans definition and testing, supporting customers specific requirements, opening new roaming agreements, … Expert-level technical support: incident management, troubleshooting, post-incident prevention and hardening, continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, … Staying abreast of developments in the network industry and contributing to the research, evaluation, and recommendation of new/emerging technologies, products, and services. Participate in on-call rotation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge in end-to-end mobile telco technical chains and standards such as:
2G-4G end to end call flows through core networks, services platforms, transit networks, roaming partners for attachment, Voice/VoLTE, SMS, USSD and data services. IT interfaces (provisioning, billing) as well. Detailed understanding of roaming and sponsored roaming. Expertise in some telco nodes such as:SIGTRAN, DIAMETER, SIP ; Voice core nodes ; messaging nodes ; IMS nodes. Hands-on expertise with telco nodes in relation with Signaling, Voice and SMS/USSD services (low level and service level configuration, testing, tracing, troubleshooting). Experience in running telecom grade network with > 99.99% availability, disaster recovery procedures, troubleshooting and performance optimization skills. Experience of telco deployments in private and public clouds, understanding of specificities and challenges. Knowledge of functions and processes supporting telco services (databases, DNS, security, load balancing, upgrade processes, scalability, resiliency). Methodologies such as: project management, study management, vendor relations, incident management, continuous improvement, technical lifecycle management. Team player, excellent collaboration skills, excellent communication (able and willing to share expertise and to convince), able to see the big picture and best-practices (customer / technology / teams / costs); ability to drive change and improvements; rigorous; flexibility to adapt to fast changing environments; able to adapt to a variety of colleagues (different professional backgrounds and culture); proactive; autonomous; fast-learner; humble and customer focused. Telecom engineer with 5-20 years in the mobile telecommunication industry (operator / vendor / integrator) with experience in engineering and operations on various nodes. 5+ years of experience in large scale telco deployments and telco grade environments. Multi-year projects with significant budgets (> 500k€) successfully delivered. SIGTRAN, DIAMETER, SIP signaling ; Voice core, SMSC, USSD expertise. Participated in successful deployments either at telco operators, telco vendors or telco integrators.

Desired Qualifications:

Knowledge of EPC, 5G & LPWA evolutions ; terminals ; SIM cards. Other 2-4G nodes and protocols ; 5G core knowledge ; public/private cloud infrastructure ; IP networking ; telco security.
