The Project Engineering Manager (PEM) is a multifaceted role that requires a balance of technical expertise, leadership skills, and effective communication to manage teams, resources, and stakeholder expectations. The ultimate goal is to identify project opportunities, provide a key link between site and Altrad engineering centres, deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards whilst keeping Health and Safety as the number one priority and aligning with the organisation's strategic objectives.
Lines of Reporting
The PEM’s line manager will be the Head of Nuclear Engineering within Altrad to whom the PEM will provide regular reports on project performance and project opportunities directly relating to ABL core scope of work. Weekly time recording and planned absence approval, yearly appraisal and continuous performance monitoring shall all be the responsibility of the line manager.
The ABL PEM will report to and work in total collaboration with the Altrad site manager and his team to ensure efficient and effective delivery of all work. Communication between the PEM and the Altrad site manager is key, with total transparency in all areas of ongoing and upcoming work required.
The Altrad (PEM) will be located within EDF’s Investment Delivery organisation and will manage the delivery of Altrad projects and proposals in line with both Altrad and EDF operational procedures and practices.
Responsibilities
Project Planning and Coordination. Project Scope Definition: Define the project scope, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with all stakeholders.Schedule Management: Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, ensuring that milestones and deadlines are met.Resource Allocation: To ensure delivery success work with all Stakeholders to ensure the required resource is available and secured for all facets of project delivery. A close working relationship with the Site Management team is requires in this regard.Project opportunities identified shall be jointly assessed by the PEM and Altrad site manager, or delegate(s), to ensure the required capability and capacity exists to execute. Should opportunities include engineering scope the PEM will engage with the Head of Nuclear Engineering. Team Leadership and Management Team Building: Define and lead a multi-discipline team of engineers and technical staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment such that efficient project delivery is translated from Altrad engineering centres to site, where appropriate.Performance Monitoring: Monitor team performance, providing guidance, feedback, and support to ensure high-quality outputs. Technical Oversight Design and Engineering Review: Oversee the design and engineering processes, ensuring compliance with operational procedures and project requirements.Problem-Solving: Address technical challenges and obstacles, providing innovative solutions and technical expertise.Quality Assurance: Implement and monitor quality control processes to ensure that project deliverables meet the required standards. Stakeholder Communication Internal Coordination: Act as a liaison between the project team and within EDF Investment Delivery and other departments, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.Client and Supply Chain Management: Interface with EDF Stakeholders, the supply chain, and other external stakeholders to communicate project status, gather requirements, and manage expectations.Reporting: Prepare and deliver regular project status reports to internal (Altrad) and EDF stakeholders, highlighting progress, risks, and issues, noting the requirements for each stakeholder may differ. Risk Management Risk Identification: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimise project impact.Issue Resolution: Proactively address and resolve project issues and conflicts, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines.Compliance: Ensure all project activities comply with relevant regulations, standards, and organisational procedures. Budget and Cost Control Budget Development: Develop and manage the project budget in collaboration with Altrad and EDF commercial teams, noting there may instances of project delivery management from Altrad to EDF.Cost Tracking: Monitor project expenditures, ensuring change and delays are managed efficiently. Manage costs within approved budgets and identify opportunities for cost savings.Financial Reporting: Provide accurate financial reports and forecasts to stakeholders using standard reporting templates. Process Improvement Best Practices: Implement and promote best practices in project and engineering management.Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and productivity where opportunities present themselves.Lessons Learned: Conduct post-project evaluations to capture lessons learned and apply them to future projects. Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) HSE Compliance: Ensure all project activities adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.Safety Culture: Promote a culture of safety within the project team and the broader organisation aligning to both Altrad and EDF core principals.-
